When planning a stay in Burg (Spreewald), you can choose from a range of activities: experience nature with all your senses, go on a water or hiking tour, and discover architectural history. Specific places and route details can help you decide what interests you most.

Choose nature and water mindfully

The outdoor grounds of Schlossberghof Burg are home to the fully accessible Nature Experience Clock. Its areas are dedicated to the senses: visitors can taste, smell, touch and hear nature there. Schlossberghof also has a walk-on aerial photograph set into the floor, offering an impression of the scattered settlement. The two attractions have different focuses: one on sensory perception, the other on an overview of the settlement pattern.

If you’d like to be out on the water, you can plan the Kolonistentour Burg & Burg Kolonie. This easy paddling tour is seven kilometres long, starts and ends at Burg harbour, and takes one hour and 40 minutes. This gives the tour a clear time frame. A traditional lock-and-barge trip through the Spreewald also departs from a harbour in Burg (Spreewald), but is seasonal. Check the operating period before planning. The two water-based activities therefore differ both in how you get around and in the details that matter for planning.

Routes and architectural history

The local history trail near Burg is five kilometres long and starts and ends at the Bismarck Tower. Sights along the way include Willischza and natural and cultural landscapes with waterways. The 27-metre-high Bismarck Tower offers panoramic views across the Spreewald landscape. It was built between 1915 and 1917 using 1.5 million clinker bricks. The tower thus connects a tangible link to local history with the trail’s starting and finishing point.

The Annemarie-Schulz-Haus tells another chapter of architectural history: it is a historic residential and livestock house in Burg dating from 1726, built of wood, clay and brick. By comparison, the Bismarck Tower was built much later, between 1915 and 1917. Together, these buildings represent different historical periods: the house highlights its residential and livestock use and building materials, while the tower showcases its construction period and clinker-brick design.

The wider area: Spree-Neiße

Beyond Burg, the wider destination of Spree-Neiße offers more to explore. The Spreeradweg cycle route crosses the Spree-Neiße region for around 60 kilometres and runs mostly along paved river dikes. The Fürst-Pückler-Weg showcases examples of landscape design from Pückler’s time and the present day. The wider destination of Spree-Neiße therefore also offers cycling and designed cultural landscapes as separate themes to explore.

Plan your stay

When looking for hotels in Burg (Spreewald), it helps to first decide what you want to focus on during your stay: the Nature Experience Clock and water-based activities, the trail and the Bismarck Tower, or historic buildings.
