In Bad Wilsnack/Weisen, pilgrimage history and river landscapes offer two distinct focuses for your stay. In Bad Wilsnack, the Wunderblutkirche St. Nikolai and restored half-timbered houses on Große Straße shape the townscape; together, they reflect a changing history spanning more than 630 years. The Karthane Circular Trail adds a scenic dimension, with the Karthane, the Elbe and views across the Elbe floodplains. When planning, you can therefore choose between cultural sites and a longer tour through the river landscape. Half-timber framing is a construction method in which a load-bearing timber frame divides the wall; the houses on Große Straße thus offer a different architectural accent from the church.

Wunderblutkirche and Pilgrimage History

At the Wunderblutkirche St. Nikolai, individuals and groups can book church tours and tower visits. The 130-kilometre pilgrimage route from Berlin to Bad Wilsnack can be completed on foot or by bicycle. This gives you different ways to travel: a bookable visit in Bad Wilsnack and a longer pilgrimage route between Berlin and the town.

A pilgrimage festival is held in Bad Wilsnack every August. It includes a craft market and concerts or theatrical performances about the history of the Wilsnack pilgrimage, presented by amateur performers. The exact event dates may vary; if you would like to plan your trip around the festival, check the latest dates.

Karthane Circular Trail and Mühlendamm Park

The Karthane Circular Trail is a 22-kilometre loop: it runs from Bad Wilsnack to Rühstädt, then back via Bälow and Groß Lüben. The starting and finishing point is Bad Wilsnack railway station. The tour is estimated to take about 5.5 hours. Along the Karthane and the Elbe, the trail offers views across the Elbe floodplains. The distance and approximate duration make it easy to gauge how much time this longer tour will take.

Mühlendamm Park offers a different perspective on the Karthane. It lies right beside the river, provides direct access to the water and covers about 5.5 hectares. Unlike the 22-kilometre loop, the focal point here is a single park by the river. This gives you two distinct options: an extended tour passing through several places, or a park with direct access to the water.

Brine Graduation Tower and Getting There

The brine graduation tower is located right at the entrance to the thermal baths. The structure is 50 metres long and 7.5 metres high. It is open daily from 09:00 until dusk. As access conditions may change, check them before your visit. Bad Wilsnack also has good rail connections to Berlin and Hamburg.
