On the shore of Beetzsee, Radewege is a place where a village church, cycling and hiking, and water sports offer different focuses for a stay. Your choice depends on whether you are primarily interested in architectural and musical history, a specific cycling route, or the lakeside setting and landscape.
Village church with Gothic architecture and a Schuke organ
The main construction phase of the Gothic village church dates to around 1400. Inside is a wooden Renaissance pulpit, painted in colour, from the second half of the 16th century. It adds a later Renaissance accent to the church’s main Gothic construction phase. Another cultural-history feature of the village church is the first organ built by Alexander Schuke, his Opus 1. The designation refers to Schuke’s first completed organ and complements the architectural perspective with a musical-history dimension. For travellers interested in church architecture or organ history, the village church thus offers two specifically identified points of interest.
Avenue Tour and Stork Hiking Trail
The Avenue Tour leads to Radewege and then follows the Stork Cycling Route back to Brandenburg an der Havel and the Rathenower Gate Tower. In Radewege, a sign on the Stork Hiking Trail also provides information about the age at which storks reach sexual maturity and about bachelor colonies. This offers a distinct nature-related focus alongside the cycling route: the Avenue Tour describes the route as far as the return journey to Brandenburg, while the sign addresses a specific topic relating to storks. Despite their similar names, these are different points of reference for planning your trip.
Lakeside setting and village character
The village landscape includes large four-sided farmsteads, a Franconian-style farmstead, a village street lined with lime trees, and an impressive new pier complex. A four-sided farmstead arranges its buildings around a courtyard on all four sides. In Radewege, the farmsteads and the Franconian-style complex are among the village’s architectural features; the lime-tree-lined street shapes the streetscape, while the pier complex provides another connection to Beetzsee. This combination offers a different perspective on Radewege from that of the village church: here, the farmsteads, village street and lakeside setting take centre stage.
Activities and refreshments
Radewege offers opportunities and amenities especially for water sports enthusiasts, hikers and cycling tourists. The Stork Hiking Trail adds a nature-focused recreational option in scenic surroundings. One specific stopping point on the Stork Cycling Route is Göpelhütte: it is located right on the route and has access to the road by the lake. The offerings include a breakfast buffet, as well as cake, ice cream, light meals, chocolates and other treats. This lets you consider refreshments as part of your route planning. Individual services may change; check Göpelhütte’s current offerings before your visit.
