Rabenstein/Fläming brings together nature, architectural history and regional cuisine. The nature discovery trail and landscape offer a different focus from the village church, castle and regional produce. When planning your visit, you can decide which aspects you would like to explore in particular.

Nature Trail, Plane River and Hills

The Rabenstein Nature Discovery Trail is an almost two-kilometre circular route between Rabenstein Castle and Raben. The trail includes eight sensory stations. Its length and circular layout provide a defined route for a nature walk, while the stations place additional emphasis on consciously experiencing nature.

The Plane rises in Raben and winds through an orchid-rich floodplain with many tight bends in the stream. Alongside the clearly defined circular trail, this offers a different landscape feature: the watercourse winding through the floodplain. The landscape around Raben also includes a chain of hills formed during the Ice Age, with views across fields and forests. The circular trail, river floodplain and hills show different sides of the nature around Raben.

Church, Castle and Exhibition

Raben Village Church was built in the first half of the 13th century as a large fieldstone building with a slender half-timbered tower. Inside are wall paintings that were added in 1907 and extensively restored in 2013. As an open church, it can be entered without first collecting a key. Opening arrangements can change, so check the conditions before your visit.

Rabenstein Castle includes a knights’ hall, a torture chamber and a chapel. The nature park exhibition “Knights’ Castles, Rummeln and Giant Stones” invites visitors to explore, play and learn. This offers different cultural highlights: the church’s architecture and paintings, the castle’s historic rooms, and an exhibition with a playful approach to learning. This can help you choose what to focus on during your stay, whether architectural history, historic interiors or an exhibition.

Information at the Nature Park Centre

The tourist information office at the Nature Park Centre provides information about the nature, history, traditions, sights and tourist services of the nature park. It is accessible at ground level. If this access information is important for your planning, check the details again in advance. Bicycles can also be rented at the Nature Park Centre; availability may vary by season. Ask about the current rental options before your trip.

Regional Produce and Potato Dishes

At the foot of Rabenstein Castle, Flämingladen sells regional products, including honey, fruit liqueur, oils and wild-fruit jams. Gasthaus Hemmerling serves potato dishes made with potatoes grown by the innkeeper in Raben. These offer different culinary options: regional produce from the shop or a dish featuring a clearly identified local ingredient at the inn. Menus and businesses can change, so check what is currently available before planning a visit.
