Teltow offers a variety of experiences within a compact area: an almost completely preserved Old Town, a distinctive regional turnip specialty and the Teltow Canal as a recreational area. The town’s history also has specific sites and themes. If you’re looking for a hotel in Teltow, you can decide whether architecture and history, food or the water and walking routes should shape your stay.

The Old Town and Teltow’s history

Teltow’s Old Town is one of the few small farming towns in the Mark Brandenburg region around Berlin that has remained almost entirely intact. The local history museum offers a range of perspectives to help visitors understand the town’s past: it documents how earlier generations lived, worked and spent their leisure time. A model of the town illustrates its history, while other displays show how people lived and worked in crafts in past centuries.

The Church of St. Andrew is a specific example of Teltow’s architectural history. After the town fire of 1801, its interior was designed according to the plans of the Prussian architect Karl-Friedrich Schinkel: in a neo-Gothic form with a classicist orientation. A flat ceiling was installed in the nave. This makes it possible to link the design to the reconstruction after the fire. The Old Rectory is also part of the town’s history: significant archaeological finds are located there, including an old oven.

Teltow turnips and their seasonal availability

Teltow turnips are a Brandenburg specialty known beyond the region and grown specifically in Teltow. Their distinctively piquant flavor is an important part of the town’s food culture; they are used both in regional restaurants and in private households. The harvest begins in October. This gives the specialty a clear seasonal connection. If turnips are one of the reasons for your trip, check in advance whether they will be on a menu during your stay.

The Teltow Canal and town harbor

Today, the Teltow Canal is a recreational area with numerous industrial monuments to discover. The town harbor offers its own, tangible connection to the water. It is located close to Teltow’s Old Town and includes, among other facilities, 39 boat berths, a harbormaster’s office and a dining establishment. The canal as a place for recreation and the harbor, with its designated facilities, are therefore distinct aspects of Teltow’s relationship with the water.

Routes with different historical connections

A section of the Berlin Wall Trail reflects more recent border history. On June 30, 2026, the town described a restored section about two kilometers long between Japaneck and Lichterfelder Allee. It runs along the former inner-German border and connects Berlin’s Steglitz-Zehlendorf district with the Brandenburg town of Teltow. At the same time, the section brings history to life for visitors and serves as an open space for recreation and meeting others, including at the Cherry Blossom Avenue.

There are also two named connections to the Way of St. James. Teltow lies on the Via Imperii, a rediscovered medieval trade route. The town is also on the Brandenburg Way of St. James from Berlin to Teltow to Leipzig, which is listed as a separate section. The Via Imperii is specifically described as a historic trade route; the separate listing of the section is an important distinction for the Brandenburg Way of St. James.

Consider which of these aspects matters most for your stay, and tailor your search for hotels in Teltow accordingly.
