Milower Land is a municipality in the Havelland district of Brandenburg, Germany. Nature and water experiences go hand in hand here with hiking and cycling opportunities, as well as historical and cultural attractions. The B 188, B 102 and B 1 federal highways provide direct connections to the regional and national road network; check for possible temporary disruptions before setting off.

Natural Landscape and Trails

Numerous side channels of the Havel, oxbow lakes, wet meadows and floodplains provide habitats for rare animal and plant species. Large parts of Milower Land belong to Westhavelland Nature Park, considered Brandenburg’s largest contiguous protected area.

One specific hiking option is the 3-Berge-Tour in Milower Land: it is 11.6 kilometres long, starts and ends at the Nature Park Visitor Centre in Milow, and is listed as taking three hours for experienced hikers. The stated duration makes this a well-defined activity. Cycling along the Havel Cycle Route is another activity in Milower Land.

Water and Discovery

The Milow natural swimming area lies on the edge of the “Untere Havel Süd” nature reserve in Westhavelland Nature and Star Park. Facilities include a wide sandy beach, a sunbathing lawn, a volleyball court, covered seating and bicycle racks. If any of these facilities are important to your plans, check the latest information before your visit.

The Milow canoe rest stop is a stopping point for human-powered boats and is not intended for overnight stays. A shallow sandy beach makes it easier to get in and out of the water; there are also benches and covered tables. Canoeing on calm waters is one way to enjoy an active leisure pursuit. Havel Kanu rents canoes, Canadian canoes and kayaks to individuals or groups of up to 40 people. Paddles, life jackets and maps are included in the rental. Confirm the latest information with the provider before making plans.

At the Milow medicinal herb garden, more than 150 medicinal plants are arranged into twelve themed areas across a 400-square-metre garden. While the garden focuses on medicinal plants, the Westhavelland Nature Park Centre offers interactive exhibits and activities: a water model, a sound station, a star experience room and a discovery table.

Local History and Culture

The estate complex in Milow was converted into a manor estate in the 16th century. A Romanesque barrel vault there is listed as a monument in the state of Brandenburg’s monument register. Almost every district also has a protected village church. The half-timbered church in Milow can be visited by prior arrangement; make arrangements before your trip.

Carl Bolle had the villa in Milow built as a summer residence in 1882. It has been used as a youth hostel since 1950. The building thus connects the town’s architectural history with a later use.

Recurring Open Atelier Days take place in Bahnitz, Jerchel, Milow and Galm. If you plan to attend one, check the specific event dates before your trip.
