Ferchesar lies at the eastern end of Lake Hohennauen-Ferchesar; Stechow is located directly on the Havelland Cycle Route. The area also offers forest trails, opportunities to enjoy the water and a village church with several historic features. Lake and Forest in Ferchesar
Ferchesar lies at the eastern end of Lake Hohennauen-Ferchesar and within a nature conservation area. A large forest stretches north and west of the village. This gives you two distinct points of reference for planning: the lake and the wooded surroundings. At the lake, Ferchesar Marina has 40 boat moorings. Since capacity may change, we recommend checking the current number before making specific plans.
Ferchesar Village Church: Half-Timbering and Altars
Ferchesar Village Church brings together several periods of construction and furnishings. It was rebuilt as a half-timbered church between 1735 and 1737. Its Neo-Baroque tower dates from 1906. Inside are a carved altar from the late 15th century and a pulpit altar donated in 1788. The carved altar dates from an earlier period than the church’s reconstruction; the pulpit altar was added later as a donation. A visit therefore offers a glimpse of more than one era. Guided tours of the church are available by arrangement; please arrange a time in advance.
Trails, Swimming and Fishing
Numerous cycling, hiking and riding trails pass through Ferchesar and its forest. Options range from a bike ride or a walk to a horseback ride. Campingplatz Buntspecht, right on Lake Hohennauen-Ferchesar, provides access for swimming. Swimming and fishing are also possible at Lochow Lake; local conditions may affect access. When planning, it is worth distinguishing between the activities: Lake Hohennauen-Ferchesar has moorings and access for swimming, while Lochow Lake offers opportunities for both swimming and fishing.

The Havelland as a Wider Region
In the wider travel destination of Havelland, the Havelland Cycle Route passes through the Havelländisches Luch, via Nauen, Ribbeck and Rathenow, and on to the Westhavelland Nature and Star Park. It is mostly paved, flat and pleasant to ride. The Havelland’s numbered junction signposting makes it easy to put together custom cycling routes. This regional information complements the route guidance in Stechow, but describes the wider travel destination of Havelland.
The Havelland also has a dedicated focus on birdwatching: a roughly 1.5-kilometre-long educational trail with illustrated information boards runs along the southern shore of GĂĽlper Lake. During the spring and autumn migrations, up to 100,000 geese and hundreds of cranes gather at GĂĽlper Lake; numerous waders, ducks and grey herons also visit. The trail and seasonal birdwatching offer a different regional focus from the trails and water-based activities in Ferchesar.
