Wandlitz combines a specific connection to hiking with two different cultural offerings: the “Golden Lion” cultural stage and the Barnim Panorama. The local attractions each have a different focus.

A Section of the 66 Lakes Hiking Trail

The 66 Lakes Hiking Trail, which is 400 kilometers long in total, passes directly through Wandlitz on a day’s hike. The distance refers to the entire trail, not the section through the town. The hiking trail is described as one of Germany’s most attractive lowland hiking trails. If you’d like to include a day of hiking in your stay, you can follow the section that passes through Wandlitz rather than treating the entire route as a single undertaking.

Stage and Museum in Wandlitz

The “Golden Lion” cultural stage is located in the historic town center. Its program includes musical events, cabaret, touring theater productions, readings, and exhibitions. This offers different types of cultural programming in one place. If you have a specific date in mind for your stay, check the program for your travel dates.

The Barnim Panorama in the center of Wandlitz combines a nature park center with an agricultural museum. The outdoor area includes a show garden and a discovery trail. This means that nature park and agricultural themes sit alongside an outdoor offering. Compared with the Golden Lion’s stage program, the focus here is on the museum and outdoor grounds.

Every year, the Barnim Panorama in Wandlitz invites visitors to its museum festival. The program includes a traditional fashion show, historic and new tractors, and activities related to the exhibition, show garden, and discovery trail. Check the current events calendar for your travel dates if you’d like to plan a visit to the festival.

Barnim as a Wider Travel Destination

The wider travel destination of Barnim offers additional cultural and technical attractions. Chorin Monastery is a masterpiece of North German Brick Gothic architecture. The Niederfinow Boat Lift is Germany’s oldest working boat lift. The two destinations offer different highlights: Brick Gothic architecture is the focus at Chorin, while Niederfinow is home to a technical structure that is still in operation.

The region’s nature and outdoor activities also vary in scale. The Ice Age Land at the Oder Edge Geopark extends across the Uckermark and Barnim districts in northeastern Brandenburg. The cycling network in Barnim district totals 610 kilometers; cycling in Barnim Nature Park is an activity for visitors to the district. For hiking, the 143-kilometer “Around the Schorfheide” circular trail is another option. It passes through Barnim Nature Park. This means there is a district-wide cycling network alongside a named hiking route with its own specified distance.

Barnim has numerous swimming lakes where visitors can relax. Boat tours are available on Lake Werbellin, and canoe trips are possible on the Finow Canal. The Finow Canal is Germany’s oldest navigable artificial waterway. The choice of water activity is clear: a boat tour on Lake Werbellin or a canoe trip on the Finow Canal.
