Feldkirchen-Westerham offers a range of interests to explore as you plan your trip: the Mangfall Cycle Path, nature along the Mangfall and local history. When looking for accommodation, you can first decide whether cycling, culture or scenery will be the focus of your trip.

Cycle path and the Mangfall

The Mangfall Cycle Path is 66 km long and runs southeast from Munich to Rosenheim. From Feldkirchen-Westerham, it follows the Mangfall directly. This provides a clear framework for a cycling trip: the route connects Munich and Rosenheim and follows the river from Feldkirchen-Westerham. Its total length calls for a different kind of planning than a single short local trail.

There are also gravel banks with shallow water along the Mangfall, where sunseekers gather. This is a different way to enjoy the Mangfall than on the cycle route: here, the focus is on the riverbank and spending time by the water. The Kleinhöhenrain Bee Nature Trail offers yet another kind of route and is 2.3 km long. Compared with the 66 km cycle route, it is much shorter; the different lengths help distinguish the nature trail from the longer cycling route when planning your trip.

Church art, local history and scenery

The pilgrimage church of the Presentation of Mary in Oberreit houses a late Gothic carved devotional image dating from around 1470. The church, its late Gothic design and the approximate date bring together religious and art-historical themes. Altenburg is the ancestral castle of the Vagen family and adds its own historical dimension.

The Feldkirchen-Westerham Local History Collection digitizes, preserves and presents the municipality’s cultural heritage in words, sound and images, from the past and present. While the church and Altenburg represent specific historical connections, the collection spans a range of media and time periods.

The landscape offers a distinctive experience too: Mangfalltal Golf Club is located on a plateau above Feldkirchen-Westerham and offers unobstructed views of the Mangfall Mountains from almost every hole. The riverbank, plateau and mountains thus represent different aspects of the local landscape.

Rail connections and finding accommodation

As of June 18, 2024, Feldkirchen-Westerham is listed as a station on the Munich–Holzkirchen–Rosenheim railway line. If you are considering travelling by train, check the current timetable before making your journey.

In the wider Rosenheim destination

Within the wider Rosenheim destination, Amerang has its own appeal. The museum at Amerang Castle offers insights into castle architecture and the history of the noble family. The Amerang Farmhouse Museum of the District of Upper Bavaria showcases farmhouses, craft buildings and technical installations from the Chiemgau region. Their focuses differ: castle architecture and noble history at the former, rural buildings, crafts and technology at the latter.

Amerang Open-Air Museum offers individual guided tours and programs for groups. The offer may change; advance arrangements may be needed for guided tours and group programs.

Another area of interest is the moor nature trail established in 2010 between Amerang and Halfing. It explains how the moor landscape formed after the Ice Age and introduces the animal and plant life native to the area. So, within the wider Rosenheim destination, museum exhibits and the natural history of the moor offer different options to suit different interests.
