Several distinct themes shape Kleinhöhenrain: the Bee Nature Trail, the wooded Tiefenbach Valley, the Path of the Senses and the branch church of St. Bartholomew. They range from bee stations and river meanders to the history of the paths, church architecture and wide views over the Mangfall Valley. You can choose which themes to focus on according to your interests in nature, culture and landscape.
Bee Nature Trail and nature
The “Kleinhöhenrain Bee Nature Trail” is suitable for children and wheelchair users. The trail features numerous information boards, a bee house, a wild bee hotel and a bee meadow; several benches provide places to rest. This mix appeals to a range of interests: alongside the information boards, there are practical facilities related to bees and places to take a break. Those interested in bees will find a clear thematic focus here.
The natural Tiefenbach stream and its source streams flow in numerous meanders through the wooded Tiefenbach Valley around Kleinhöhenrain. Meanders are bends in a river; the term describes the many curves in the stream. As a nature theme, the valley differs from the trail: here, waterways and woodland are characteristic, while the trail focuses on bees and their stations.
Path history and church architecture
The “Path of the Senses” was created in 2009 along the Stations of the Cross, which has connected Maxhofen and Kleinhöhenrain since 1870. The two dates have different meanings: 1870 marks the beginning of the Stations of the Cross, while 2009 marks the creation of the Path of the Senses. Compared with the Bee Nature Trail, this path has a historical focus: the bee stations define the nature trail, while the Path of the Senses follows the older Stations of the Cross.
The branch church of St. Bartholomew in Kleinhöhenrain is a hall church with an onion dome. Its other features include painted vaults and an ornate pulpit. The church offers views over the expansive Mangfall Valley and 80 mountain peaks. This adds two distinct aspects: architectural design and views of the landscape.
A wild herb walk offers another highlight: participants gather wild herbs, cook together and eat together. Gathering and preparation go hand in hand, and sharing a meal is part of the experience. If you would like to include this activity in your plans, check the date and availability in advance.
