Those considering Hemau as a travel destination will find several distinct points of interest: the Zehentstadel represents culture, the toy museum showcases historical toys, and there are also the “Kuhtrails” dirt park and a digital outdoor scavenger hunt. This makes it easy to choose a focus based on your own interests—cultural venues and collections, or outdoor activities and solving puzzles together.
Culture at the Zehentstadel
Since renovation work was completed in December 2003, the Zehentstadel has served as a cultural center. In addition to the town library and town archive, it offers two multipurpose event spaces—the council chamber and the civic hall—for talks, readings and concerts. Kulturstadel Hemau e.V. was founded in January 2005 with the aim of filling the Zehentstadel with cultural life. The building’s cultural purpose and the association’s work are therefore directly connected.
Toys and seasonal opening times
The Hemau Toy Museum displays toys from the 19th and 20th centuries. These include dolls, toy shops, metal and wooden construction sets, as well as a working model railway. The collection brings together different forms of play: from toy shops and dolls to construction sets and model trains. The seasonal calendar is important when planning your visit. Visiting hours run from the spring market on the last Sunday in April through July, and from mid-September through December on the first and third Sunday of each month, from 2 to 4 p.m. Check the opening times on the town website before your visit.
Outdoor activities and playful discoveries
A notable feature of the “Kuhtrails” is the range of facilities for different skill levels: there is a children’s pump track for the youngest riders, as well as a large pump track and small, medium and large dirt lines. The latter are intended for older children, teenagers and adults, who can practice jumps and stunts on the tracks.
“The Treasure at Hessenweiher” offers a different kind of group activity. This digital outdoor scavenger hunt takes you around Hemau town center. Teams follow an investigative chat on their smartphones, receive clues and use an interactive map that leads to various locations in Hemau. Unlike at the dirt park, the focus here is not on jumps but on solving a case using digital clues.
An adventure playground in Tangrintelpark adds to the range of activities. The site covers around 3,200 m² and has about 35 pieces of play equipment, including an inclusive playground, an adventure area and a water play area. It offers children of all ages opportunities to play and explore. The first phase opened in July 2026, with completion planned in stages through 2029. Keep this phased development in mind when planning your visit.
