For a stay in Brunn, culture and hiking can be explored at specific places: the Church of St. Peter and Paul reflects the history of the village, while the described trails connect Brunn with Frauenberg and other places. The church, tradition, and hikes each offer a different focus. When planning, it helps to keep the respective routes and destinations in mind.

Church, history, and tradition in Brunn

The Catholic Church of St. Peter and Paul in Brunn is a branch church of the Frauenberg parish. Its history is documented from an early date: it was first mentioned in a document in 1280, when it was sold to the monastery in Pielenhofen. The church features a Rococo high altar. This brings together a specific architectural detail and a written record dating back many centuries.

The St. Wendelin’s Day observance is part of Brunn’s religious traditions. A church service and sermon are held on this day. A procession then passes through the village to a meadow, where the livestock is blessed. The procession therefore leads from the church through Brunn to a destination outside the church building. For visitors interested in religious traditions, it complements the church’s history with a local custom.

Hiking trails with different routes

The waymarked W58 hiking trail follows Brunner Straße through Brunn and continues to Frauenberg, ending at Marienplatz by the church. The route description therefore names both Brunn and a specific destination in Frauenberg. Following this route, you can choose it based on its destination rather than looking at the route name alone.

The 13.5-kilometer “Around Brunn” hike follows a different route: it starts in Frauenberg, passes along forest paths through Brunn and Eglsee, and returns to Frauenberg. At the village entrance, the route passes through a small settlement to the TSV Brunn sports grounds. The hike’s name therefore refers to a loop through several places; it does not run exclusively within Brunn.

More topics in the broader Regensburg destination

The broader Regensburg destination also includes cultural and garden attractions in other places. The Walhalla in Donaustauf is one of Germany’s notable Neoclassical buildings. Its exterior is Doric and features 52 columns. Since 1842, this memorial hall of honor on the Danube has honored notable Germans and people associated with German history with marble busts and commemorative plaques. Its architecture and commemorative function offer two different points of interest for a visit.

From Easter through October, passenger boats operated by Klinger and Wurm & Noé travel to the Walhalla. They run from Regensburg, at the Stone Bridge, to the foot of the Walhalla. If you are planning a boat trip, check the specific operating days in advance.

The nine-hectare Nepal-Himalaya Park in Wiesent offers a different experience. It combines Asian culture and nature with a Nepalese temple, a diverse perennial garden, and numerous Asian works of art. The grounds also include a Himalayan garden and a Chinese garden, as well as more than 6,200 different plant species. The broader Regensburg destination thus encompasses both Neoclassical architecture and commemorative culture, and gardens with a wide variety of plants—separate from the churches and hiking destinations in Brunn.
