Bodenmais brings together a guided visitor mine, nature trails, waterfalls and art. The range extends from the 2.5-kilometer Ameisenstraße (Ant Trail) to the 47-kilometer Seven Summits Bodenmais hike. This range is a helpful starting point for planning. The experiences also differ in format: sometimes the focus is a guided walk through a mine tunnel, sometimes a nature trail, exhibition space or art in a garden.

Mining Underground

On a tour of the Historic Visitor Mine in Bodenmais, the route passes through the more than 600-meter-long Barbara Tunnel to the Große Barbaraverhau. There, visitors can see machinery and hoisting shafts in operation. The tunnel system in the Silberberg is about 20 kilometers long. This figure describes the system, not the length of the route through the Barbara Tunnel: the two numbers refer to different measurements and cannot be equated.

Looking at the length of each route is also useful when choosing between the nature offerings. The Ameisenstraße is a 2.5-kilometer nature trail with 27 stations that is suitable for strollers. By contrast, Seven Summits Bodenmais passes over seven peaks around the climatic health resort and covers 47 kilometers with 1,862 meters of elevation gain. These specific distances make it possible to distinguish a shorter nature trail from a much longer summit hike.

Water Trails and Landscapes

The Rißloch Waterfalls consist of five main cascades and are 55 meters high overall; the main waterfall is 15 meters high. Along the trail to the waterfalls, signs from the Bavarian Forest Nature Park provide information about the flora and fauna of the nature reserve. The Wildes-Wasser-Weg takes a different approach: it connects two natural spectacles along a hiking route in Bodenmais.

Woid Woifes Welt also combines water and nature. It includes a water adventure area with a Kneipp pool and a boardwalk over a wetland habitat. The offerings therefore differ clearly: the Rißloch Waterfalls draw attention to their cascades and height, the Wildes-Wasser-Weg links two natural spectacles, and Woid Woifes Welt features the Kneipp pool and boardwalk over the wetland habitat.

Exhibitions and Art in the Garden

Rotating exhibitions are held in the gallery on the first floor of the Altes Rathaus Cultural Center. Each exhibition features a platform for international artists and emerging artists. Art lovers will find a changing exhibition program here, featuring both international artists and emerging talent.

A different kind of art can be found in the JOSKA Crystal Gardens, where art objects complement nature. Sculptures made of glass, rusted metal and stone are integrated into the garden grounds. Unlike the gallery, which hosts rotating exhibitions inside the building, the artworks here are incorporated into the gardens. Bodenmais therefore offers different art venues alongside its mining and nature experiences, each with its own format.
