In Patersdorf, hiking trails in the Patersdorfer Berge meet religious routes and a parish church with a long history. The district teaching garden adds horticultural expertise to these themes. When planning your visit, consider whether you would like to focus more on the landscape, religious sites or cultural history: each theme has a distinct character and its own emphasis.

Hiking and Religious Trails

The “Patersdorfer Berge” panoramic region lies in the Teisnachtal valley and offers excellent conditions for hiking through the landscape in the municipality of Patersdorf. Trails in the municipality and neighboring communities crisscross the Patersdorfer Berge; the views are highlighted as a highlight of the hikes. This makes the landscape views an explicit part of the hiking experience described here. If you choose nature and exercise as the central theme of your stay, you can distinguish this focus from the religious sites.

The Ecumenical Chapel Trail in the Teisnachtal valley comprises 25 religious sites. It passes through Zachenberg, Patersdorf and Gotteszell, then returns to its starting point at the OsterbrĂĽnnl Chapel near Ruhmannsfelden. The route thus connects several named places through a religious theme and follows a clear circular route. The Way of the Cross in Tradweging offers a different emphasis: twelve stations lead to a chapel in a clearing. While the 25 stations and the return to the starting point define the Chapel Trail, the chapel is the destination of the Way of the Cross in Tradweging.

Church History and the Garden

St. Martin’s Parish Church in Patersdorf dates back to the 9th century. The paintings on the high altar and the Sebastian altar were created by Joseph Rauscher (1683–1744); both are dated to 1722. This gives two distinct points of reference: the early date of the church and the later creation of the altar paintings. The year 1722 falls within Rauscher’s lifetime, giving the works of art a specific historical context. For a culturally focused stay, the town’s history is linked here with an example of religious painting.

The district teaching garden is located on the northern edge of town. A 2014 notice describes it as covering around one hectare and containing about 200 fruit trees. The garden is intended as a place to learn about horticulture, particularly through guided tours and courses. If you would like to make a tour or course the occasion for your visit, check in advance whether a suitable date is available. This lets you plan the garden as a distinct focus: its emphasis on plant knowledge sets it apart from the hiking trails and religious routes.

A Separate Theme in the Broader Destination of Regen

The broader destination of Regen also offers its own cultural themes. In the town of Regen, the beer and ice cellars are regularly presented during public guided tours as the historic “Regener Underworld,” with their history explained. This offers a different way to explore the past than St. Martin’s Parish Church and its altar paintings in Patersdorf. If you are interested in historic places, you can consider these themes separately when planning your trip, without attributing them to Patersdorf itself.
