Rinchnach offers a range of reasons to visit: a historic circular trail in the village center, tours of rooms in the former monastery complex that are normally not open to the public, and several named hiking and mountain biking routes. There is also the annual Große Wolfauslassen, held on a set date. When choosing when to travel and where to stay, it is worth deciding what matters most to you: culture, trails or the event day.

Culture between the Village Center and the Monastery

In the village center, a historic circular trail passes the Baroque church, which is the trail’s focal point. Monastery tours are held on dates set well in advance and include other rooms in the former monastery complex that are otherwise not open to the public. These include the medieval cloister, dating from 1402, with its courtyard garden, the oratory and the side chapel with its distinctive freshwater pearl mussel decoration. Register with the Rinchnach Local History and Tourism Office by 3 p.m. on the day before the tour at the latest. Check the current tour dates before your visit.

Museum and Bat-Themed Attractions

At the “Rotes Schulhaus” museum, you can view photographs, drawings and watercolors. Check current access arrangements before your visit. At the bat-themed forest playground, 27 information boards tell you about Rinchnach’s mascot and all the bat species of the Bavarian Forest. This adds insights into the region’s bat life to the historic attractions in the village center.

Hiking Trails and Mountain Biking Routes

The 12-kilometer Panoramablick hiking trail is a circular route in Rinchnach and is one of the TOP hiking trails in the Arber region. The historic long-distance hiking trails Pandurensteig and Gunthersteig pass through Rinchnach. Circular trails No. 2 and 4, as well as the historic Gunthersteig and Wilhelmsweg, lead to the viewing platform in the Rinchnach high forest. The Gunthersteig therefore passes both through Rinchnach and leads to the viewing platform. Three mountain biking routes are marked from Rinchnach. You can choose from different ways to explore the area: a circular hiking trail with a stated length, historic long-distance trails, routes to the viewing platform and marked mountain biking routes.

A Set Date in November

The Große Wolfauslassen takes place every year and starts at 6 p.m. on November 10 in Rinchnach village center. If this event is the reason for your trip, check the event date for the year you plan to visit.

In the Wider Destination of Regen

In the wider destination of Regen, the beer and ice cellars in Regen are regularly presented as the historic “Regener Unterwelt” (Regen Underworld) during public tours, which explain their history. The Beer Experience Hike is about 5 km long, with almost half the route running directly alongside the Regen River. At Weißenstein, the focus is on geological and ecological topics: the quartz rocks near Weißenstein Castle Ruins were placed under nature protection in 1940 because of their geological significance. The Pfahl at Weißenstein is an important habitat for rare heat- and drought-loving animal and plant species adapted to nutrient-poor locations.
