Krumbach (Swabia) can be explored in several ways: themed town tours, the Kneipp trail, historical information boards and prominent landmarks in the townscape.
Town tours, the Kneipp trail and historical information boards
The Krumbach Heritage Society offers town tours on a range of themes. If you would like to plan a tour, check the latest dates in the society’s brochure before your trip. The revamped Kneipp trail in Krumbach offers the opportunity to experience the Kneipp philosophy with all your senses. The tours and the trail therefore focus on different themes.
Since February 2026, historical information boards featuring old photographs and information have invited visitors to explore the town’s history at nine locations and buildings. The starting point of the audio tour provides another useful planning reference: it begins in Krumbach Town Park. This gives you the option of exploring the town’s history through a guided tour or the information boards, while the Kneipp trail offers a different approach.
Church, castle and HĂĽrben
St. Michael’s Parish Church and Krumbach Castle, built in 1530, form a prominent focal point in Krumbach. The Jewish cemetery in the Krumbach district of Hürben offers a distinct historical perspective. It contains around 1,000 gravestones and is of historical significance. Together, these places show different aspects of Krumbach’s history: the striking townscape in the centre and an important memorial site in Hürben.
More topics in the wider GĂĽnzburg destination
If you would like to extend your travel plans beyond Krumbach, the wider Günzburg destination offers further, distinct topics. For educational and town history, there are a range of museum exhibits to choose from. The Bavarian School Museum in Ichenhausen traces the development of the school system over thousands of years; its historic classroom once accommodated around 50 children. The Museum of the City of Burgau presents the town’s history from the Middle Ages to the recent past across two floors and more than 700 square metres. Check the latest opening details before visiting a museum.
Pilgrimage is another distinct focus in the wider GĂĽnzburg destination. Maria Vesperbild in the district of GĂĽnzburg, near Ziemetshausen, is considered the largest pilgrimage site in Bavarian Swabia. A Way of the Cross leads from the pilgrimage church to the Fatima Grotto in the nearby forest. The grotto was built in 1957 and restored in 2011. More than 1,000 votive tablets bearing words of thanks and testimonies to the help received from the Mother of God stand there.
The routes described vary considerably in length and character, catering to different hiking interests. The DonAuwald hiking trail is the first premium hiking trail in Bavarian Swabia and runs for around 60 kilometres between Günzburg and Schwenningen. The DonauHänge is an 18.5-kilometre circular trail through the hillside forest between Günzburg and Offingen. The certified Streifzüge walking trails run along streams and ponds and through gently rolling countryside. The Hansenhohl Nature Trail is in Thannhausen: it is around 1.5 kilometres long and has eight play and information stations. Winter visits are not recommended due to the risk of slipping. There is also a free quiz tour for the trail, “Sabotage in Hansenhohl”, available as a crime-mystery app; check in advance whether it is currently available. When hiking, it is also worth checking the latest trail conditions.
LEGOLAND® Deutschland in Günzburg caters to a different travel interest. The theme park has 11 themed areas and 68 attractions; the theme park and its adjoining holiday village offer experiences for children aged 2 to 12. Check the latest operating information before making plans. This allows you to distinguish between town history and Kneipp in Krumbach and the distinct cultural, landscape and leisure offerings in the wider Günzburg destination when planning your trip.
