Poing offers a range of themes for your stay: Roman traces, churches, routes and sporting activities. Two main areas can help you decide: those interested in history will find evidence from different periods, while those looking to include physical activity in their plans can explore the routes and sports facilities.

Roman Traces and Historic Sites

The reconstructed Roman gate, the protective palisade, the pottery kiln and the well in Building Quarter 4, north of Kirchheimer Allee, offer a glimpse into the period from the 1st to the 4th century AD. Roman country estates are located in Bergfeldpark near the pottery kiln at Sudetenstraße 75. Roman history can thus be encountered at several named locations in Poing.

Route 6 also leads to Roman archaeological excavations. It runs through Bergfeldpark to the Monopteros, then continues to the singing stone and the Roman excavations; it also takes in Bergfeldsee lake. The sequence of stops provides a guide if you want to take in different local points of interest along one route.

Churches from Different Periods

The parish church of Blessed Father Rupert Mayer was consecrated in 2018. It is the newest church in the Archdiocese and the only one dedicated to Blessed Father Rupert Mayer. Visitors are interested in its architecture and the liturgical furnishings by Ulrich Rückriem, including the large crucifix by Josef Henselmann.

The Old Parish Church of St. Michael spans a different period of history. It is one of Poing’s two listed buildings. Its Gothic tower dates back to Roman times; after part of the church collapsed, it was completely rebuilt and extended in 1954. In Grub, the small St. Ulrich’s Chapel still stands on the site of a medieval Church of St. Ulrich. Together, these churches reflect different building and use histories, without belonging to a single period.

Routes, Sports and Outdoor Leisure

The fitness trail in Poing has been available to sports enthusiasts of all ages since 2017. Its equipment can be used around the clock for endurance or strength training. Since early July 2026, an inclusive upper-body trainer has also been available on Gebrüder-Grimm-Straße. This gives you information about a physical activity option with a clearly stated training purpose and timeframe to help you plan.

At Bergfeldsee lake in Poing, there is a volleyball court, an outdoor table tennis table, and a large sand and water play area. Reuterpark in the south of Poing offers something different: this recreation area, covering about two hectares, has a tree trail that provides information about the range of species. While the lake is centred on sports and play areas, the tree trail offers a way to discover the diversity of trees.

Route 6, Bergfeldsee lake and Reuterpark offer different ways to spend time outdoors. The information about each place can help you choose what to focus on during your stay: a route with several named stops, sports and play by the lake, or the tree trail in the recreation area.

Ebersberg: Forest and Panoramic Views

In the wider Ebersberg travel destination, the observation tower in Ebersberg Forest has 169 steps leading to a sweeping panorama: the view stretches across the entire Alpine foothills, from the Berchtesgaden Alps to the Allgäu. On exceptionally clear days, you can even see distant peaks over 3,000 metres high. The Museum of Forest and Environment has stood right beside Ebersberg Forest since 2004 and focuses on the history of forest use and forest ecology.
