The Büchsenberg viewing point and St. Georg parish show two different sides of Aßling: scenic views and local church history. The wider Ebersberg destination adds forests, cultural history and regional cuisine.

Views and local history in Aßling

The Büchsenberg viewing point in Aßling has been given a new look. The completed work included replacing the steps leading up to the “Aßling panoramic viewpoint.”

St. Georg Aßling is a Catholic parish in the Aßling parish association. Since January 1, 2009, the association has included the Catholic parishes of Aßling-St. Georg, Emmering-St. Pankratius and Frauenneuharting-Mariä Heimsuchung, as well as the curacies of Dorfen-St. Ägidius and Steinkirchen-St. Martin.

After extensive renovation work, the swimming pool on Schulstraße, on the grounds of Aßling primary and middle school, reopened. If you are planning a swim, check current visitor information in advance.

Nature, culture and culinary delights in the wider Ebersberg destination

The observation tower in Ebersberg Forest has 169 steps leading to views across the entire Alpine foothills, from the Berchtesgaden Alps to the Allgäu. On particularly clear days, you can even see distant peaks over 3,000 meters high. The Forest and Environment Museum has been located beside Ebersberg Forest since 2004 and explores the history of forest use and forest ecology.

The Ebersberg Forest Environmental Education Center has been awarded the Bavarian “Umweltbildung.Bayern” quality seal and hosts events focused on education for sustainable development. Events are held mainly outdoors and in the adjacent forest; visits by school classes and other groups are possible.

Seasonal events and regional cuisine

The Kirchseeon Perchten parade is a fixture of the run-up to Christmas and attracts many visitors every year. Strikingly designed masks, elaborate costumes, drums and bells create a distinctive atmosphere in the market town of Kirchseeon.

Once a year, Herrmannsdorfer hosts a large harvest festival. The event features specialties from the fire pit, porchetta, pastrami, bratwurst, freshly made Auszogne pastries and freshly tapped Schweinsbräu beer; the barns and workshops also open their doors. Herrmannsdorf, east of Glonn, is a former country estate and a nationally renowned model project for organic farming.

Archaeology, museums and architecture

A branch of the Roman road in Poing led to Roman farmsteads, which were discovered during construction work in 2004. The Grafing City Museum presents artistic and historical highlights from the surrounding area in special and permanent exhibitions, as well as insights into the lives and work of people in the region around Grafing. It is open Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m. and Sundays from 2 to 4 p.m.; it is closed on public holidays. Check the opening hours before visiting.

Elkofen Castle is in Unterelkofen, two kilometers south of Grafing town center. It is one of the best-preserved castles in Upper Bavaria and is surrounded by a wide, deep moat that was once filled with water.
