A stream in the valley, trails through the municipal forest and cultural sites give Hösbach a variety of things to discover during a stay. Local attractions also include cycling routes and the pilgrimage church in the district of Schmerlenbach. When planning, consider the differences in time required, scenery and cultural focus.

Forest trails through the valley and municipal forest

The trail to Wandererbrunnen begins in the southwest of Hösbach at Waldschenke. It climbs gently through an unspoilt, idyllic valley with a stream; after about 15 minutes, you will reach the fountain. In Hösbach-Sand, the forest nature trail starts at Froschmaul-Brunnen and runs for about three kilometres through the municipal forest. It takes approximately 30 minutes to walk and, according to the municipality, is suitable for walks with children.

Circular trails and cycling routes

The well-maintained Günthersbach/Kniebreche circular trail between Hösbach and Wenighösbach passes a former brickworks. If you walk up to the ridge, you can enjoy views across the valley. In the district of Rottenberg, another circular trail winds through orchards and past fields. Conditions on this route may vary depending on the season and trail conditions; take this into account when planning.

The pedestrian and cycle path from Hösbach to Wenighösbach runs parallel to the road and is particularly suitable for trips with a pushchair or inline skates. The route from Wandererbrunnen via “Drei Kreuze” to Schmerlenbach, also known as “Sieben Wege”, is well signposted and suitable for mountain biking and challenging cross-country running. From Hösbach-Bahnhof, a route heads towards Steiger and Weyberhöfe and is particularly suitable for cycling. You can hike, jog, power walk and cycle in Hösbach without a car.

Three timeframes to help you plan

With about 15 minutes to reach Wandererbrunnen, around 30 minutes for the forest nature trail and approximately 45 minutes for the circular trail in Rottenberg, there are options for different timeframes. These estimates can help you weigh up the different routes based on how much time you have available.

Cultural sites and pilgrimage church

The six stops on the “Hösbacher Kulturpunkte” (Hösbach Cultural Sites) route cover geology, nature conservation, cultural landscapes, industrial heritage and village history. The route starts at the school centre and introduces visitors to part of the cultural landscape of the lower Aschaff valley. It also offers panoramic views of the Aschaff valley and the Spessart. The route has an elevation difference of about 50 metres, a practical point to consider when planning your walk.

The district of Schmerlenbach is home to the late Baroque pilgrimage church, built in 1758/59 under Abbess Engelberta von Rodenhausen. The church’s oldest work of art is a Pietà, about 30 centimetres tall, dating from around 1380. This cultural site brings together two works created in very different periods.

Outdoor swimming pool in Rottenberg

Waldschwimmbad Rottenberg is an outdoor swimming pool and a meeting place for sport, relaxation and spending time together. If you are planning a visit, check that it will be open on your chosen date.
