Pleiskirchen combines the hilly landscape of the Holzland with a distinct focus on golf and a diverse architectural history. The golf course offers views of nearby villages and the mountain panorama of the Bavarian-Austrian Alps; churches and Klebing Castle showcase different architectural styles and periods. This gives you three distinct starting points for planning a trip: landscape and golf, a sport-oriented cycling tour, and historic architecture.

The Holzland, Golf, and the Tour de Holzland

Pleiskirchen lies in the hilly Holzland. The golf course of Pleiskirchen Golf Club is set in an attractive landscape against the backdrop of the nearby Inn Valley. From there, views extend to nearby villages and the mountain panorama of the Bavarian-Austrian Alps. The club offers an 18-hole championship course. If golf is the main focus of your stay, this offers a specific sporting option in a distinctive landscape.

The “Tour de Holzland” cycling route passes through Pleiskirchen and offers a different focus from golf. It is aimed at sporty mountain bikers or ambitious e-bikers with a fully charged battery. This gives the route a clearly sporting character; check the current route and conditions before setting off. This way, you can consider the tour as a separate activity option alongside the golf course, without treating the two as equivalent.

Churches and a Castle with Several Layers of History

The Catholic parish church of St. Nicholas in Pleiskirchen is a hall church of Gothic origin and was remodeled in the Baroque style in 1631/32. A hall church has a main interior designed as a single, continuous space. The tower’s upper section dates from 1882; the cemetery wall was partially renovated in 1983. Its Gothic origins, Baroque remodeling, and later structural changes give the church several distinct points of reference in time.

Klebing Castle in Klebing is a three-story, four-wing complex with an octagonal tower and decorative plasterwork. Octagonal means eight-sided; the tower’s shape is thus a distinctive feature of the complex. The castle was probably built on an older foundation in the second half of the 17th century, and the castle chapel was built at the same time. The tentative dating and the older foundation represent different historical layers, while the chapel belongs to the castle’s construction period.

The Catholic churches in Georgenberg, Nonnberg, and SigrĂĽn also each have their own distinctive features. The filial church of St. George in Georgenberg was built in 1496 on an older foundation, probably dating from the 12th or 13th century. The Church of the Assumption of Mary in Nonnberg, a church with its own priest, has a Late Gothic choir and nave and was consecrated in 1427. Its tower probably dates back to an earlier church consecrated in 1218. St. Kolomann in SigrĂĽn is a Late Gothic brick hall church from the second half of the 15th century; its tower has a stepped gable.

The dates refer to different events: 1427 marks the consecration of the Church of the Assumption of Mary, 1496 the construction of St. George, and 1218 the consecration of a presumed earlier church. Together with Late Gothic architectural features, brickwork, and a stepped gable, these provide a comparison of different architectural forms and historical layers. Pleiskirchen thus appeals not only to travelers looking for golf or a sporty cycling tour, but also offers a specific subject of interest for architecture enthusiasts.
