A 10.5-kilometre circular hike, a trail with views over Tieringen and seasonal winter sports options give Tieringen several distinct highlights. The Local History Museum complements the landscape and trails with insights into crafts, agriculture and village life in the past. For planning, one simple question can help: Would you mainly like to explore Tieringen on foot, include local history, or choose winter sports if snow conditions are suitable?

Hiking between the valley, escarpment and edge of the village

The Tieringer Hörnle circular hike is 10.5 kilometres long and starts and ends in Tieringen. It passes through the Schlichem Valley and along the escarpment to the Hörnle viewpoint; panorama stations, the Hohler Backofen limestone cave and the Hülenbuch nature reserve are also along the route. The hike thus combines varied landscapes with specific nature and viewpoint destinations.

The Tieringen Panorama Trail starts and ends at the Schlichemhalle. It first passes through the village, then follows the lower tree line along the edge of the Bära’s open valley basin around Tieringen. This gives it a different focus from the circular hike to the Hörnle: the route described here includes both the village section and the valley basin.

The Tieringer Hörnle hike starts at the edge of the village, beside the car park at the Schlichemhalle; a barefoot trail there offers an additional activity at the starting point. The forest nature trail leads to the Schlichem spring area. There are numerous places to sit, a view over Tieringen and a barbecue area there. Along the Interstuhl Trail, hikers can discover unusual seating installations at particularly scenic points.

The different highlights can help you choose between the trails: the circular hike passes a viewpoint, a cave and a nature reserve; the Panorama Trail runs through the village and along the valley basin. The forest nature trail leads to the Schlichem spring area, while the unusual seating installations at points along the Interstuhl Trail are one of its distinctive features.

Local History Museum and village history

The Local History Museum in Tieringen displays tools and equipment used in crafts and agriculture, household items from farm life, as well as equipment and objects relating to the fire service and former club and village life. Its themes range from work and household life to the fire service and community life. If you would like to include local history in your trip as well as the trails, the museum offers a distinct focus with specific connections to everyday life in the past.

Ski trails and ski lift in winter

The classic Tieringer Hörnle cross-country ski trail is just over 10 kilometres long. You can shorten it to 6.5 kilometres by joining at the car park above the Berghütte inn. This gives you a choice between the longer route and the shorter option described here. The trail is one of the seasonal winter activities.

When snow conditions are good, a skating trail is also groomed in the area of the classic trail. It offers another option for anyone who would like to skate on the trail; it is set up only when the specified snow conditions allow.

Another winter option is the Oberstocken ski lift in the Meßstetten district of Tieringen. Its slope is 400 metres long and, with its moderate gradient, is well suited to families and beginners. The lift operates when there is sufficient snow.

The winter activities therefore differ in type and route length: the classic trail offers a choice of just over 10 kilometres or the shortened 6.5-kilometre route, with a skating trail also available when snow conditions are good. The ski lift has a 400-metre slope with a moderate gradient. Take the snow conditions into account when planning.
