Winterlingen brings together a range of attractions: the planet trail, a protected wetland, theater, a postal museum and a classic cross-country ski trail. When choosing where to stay, you can focus on specific interests, such as culture and nature or a winter activity.
Winterlingen Between the Planet Trail and Ski Trail
The Winterlingen Planet Trail depicts the solar system to scale at a ratio of 1 to 1 billion along the “Space Path.” Its defining feature is the scale used to represent the solar system. If you are looking for an outing with a focus on natural sciences, the planet trail offers a clear thematic highlight.
A very different, seasonal attraction is the Winterlingen ski trail. Above the Dickeloch ski lift, the WSV Winterlingen grooms it as a classic cross-country ski trail when snow conditions are suitable. It is 5.6 kilometers long; about one kilometer is lit during the ski lift’s opening hours. So, for a specific day of cross-country skiing, check the snow conditions and whether the lift is operating. The lighting applies only to the stated section and period.
Natural Swimming Pool and Indoor Pool
The Winterlingen natural swimming pool is one of the highest-altitude natural swimming pools in Germany. At the same time, it is a valuable wetland habitat that is specially protected under nature conservation law, home to great crested newts, alpine newts and smooth newts. The natural swimming pool is therefore characterized not only as a bathing facility, but also by its protected habitat and the three named newt species.
The indoor pool has different specific features: its water surface measures 250 square meters, and the pool is 25 meters long and 10 meters wide. The two places can therefore be distinguished by different aspects: the natural swimming pool is about its wetland habitat and species, while the indoor pool is defined by its dimensions.
Theater and Postal Museum
K3 is a small theater and, since 2022, also a sociocultural center. Children, young people and adults can take part in various theater groups and perform themselves. The cultural offering therefore includes both the theater as a venue and the opportunity to perform in groups. If you plan to take part, check the current program: the program and participation requirements may change.
The Winterlingen Postal Museum is located in the old post office building at Ebinger Straße 56, 72474 Winterlingen. It contains more than 5,000 postal artifacts, including a complete old post office counter and more than 300 postal caps from around the world. The collection thus brings together different kinds of postal artifacts, and the address gives the museum’s exact location.
Harthauser Heath and Local History Museum
At the municipal level, the Harthauser Heath adds another protected natural area: it is a designated natural monument under Section 32 of the Nature Conservation Act. Guided tours for adults and children are offered there in summer. As this is a seasonal offering, confirm the specific dates locally before planning your visit.
The local history museum in Harthausen is housed in Harthausen Town Hall. It opened on October 10, 1987, and was established using collections and loans. The museum describes itself as a village museum and a place to connect with the local past. Together with the postal collection, it offers a different perspective on local history, with an explicit focus on the village and its heritage.
