A Roman bath that can be visited without a guided tour, a stone house built in 1244 and a circular trail with a stated duration give visitors several points of interest in Rosenfeld. Some attractions are in the Rosenfeld settlement center, while others are in the municipality’s districts. When planning, it is worth bearing these differences in location and timing in mind: museum visits have their own conditions, while the outdoor pool and hiking trails offer different experiences.

Historical traces in Rosenfeld

The Roman bath is part of a partially excavated Roman villa estate. Information panels make it possible to visit without a guided tour; the site is freely accessible. The Old Pharmacy in Rosenfeld was built in 1244 and is the oldest preserved stone house in southern Germany. The nine o’clock bell can be heard every evening at nine at the Old Town Hall.

More attractions in the districts

The Zollern-Alb Observatory is in Brittheim, outside the Rosenfeld settlement. It has a modern reflecting telescope with an 80 cm mirror and a radio telescope with a diameter of 3 m. During observing evenings, visitors can view live through the available telescopes the objects featured in the presentations. Check the current program in advance, as dates and registration requirements may change.

In Heiligenzimmern, the Fish Nature Trail passes the “Hintertann” pond complex and ends in the direction of the sports ground. The Leidringen Local History Museum in the Vogtshof shows how the farming population of the Kleiner Heuberg lived and worked around 1850; contact the museum operator for current opening hours and admission details. The Täbingen Local History Room displays furniture, clothing and everyday objects once used by the village’s farming population on the Kleiner Heuberg. Visits are possible by appointment only, as there are no regular opening hours.

Outdoor pool and circular hike

Sofienbad is a heated outdoor pool with a constant water temperature of 24°C; its season runs from May to September. The pool has beach volleyball, table tennis and giant chess. Before traveling, check the operator’s latest information on the season and opening status.

Both the distance and duration are provided for the Alb Panorama Trail Rosenfeld: the easy circular hike is 10.16 km long and is listed as taking three hours. As the operator may revise route information, check the trail details before setting out.

The wider area: Zollernalb District

The Zollernalb lies in the western part of the Swabian Alb UNESCO Global Geopark, where the mountains reach their greatest heights, within the wider destination of Zollernalb District. For longer hikes, the 33-kilometer Schlichem Hiking Trail runs from Meßstetten-Tieringen to Epfendorf. Small waterfalls, wet meadows and a steep-sided gorge are among the route’s landscape features. By comparison, the Alb Panorama Trail Rosenfeld is the shorter circular hike at 10.16 km; its stated duration is three hours.

Hohenzollern Castle offers another cultural perspective in Zollernalb District. The present-day castle is the third fortress on Zollerberg, belongs to the municipality of Bisingen and lies within the cadastral area of the Zimmern district. After its two predecessors were destroyed and fell into disrepair, it was rebuilt between 1850 and 1867. Its cultural program includes numerous concerts, family days, open-air cinema and exhibitions. The castle opens to visitors daily and offers a glimpse of its historic rooms; check the current opening times before your visit.
