More than 80 hands-on learning models covering physics and technology, and complete salon furnishings dating from 1860 to 2000, represent two very different sides of Altlußheim. When planning a stay, you can choose among the town’s attractions based on whether you are more interested in technology, hairdressing history or outdoor activities.
Technology and the Hairdressing Trade
The TECHNOLOGIE-ARENA of the AUTOVISION Museum Foundation is an out-of-school learning center for physics and technology. School classes and individual visitors can use more than 80 hands-on learning models there. The exhibits focus on technological principles, making this a very different experience from a collection that primarily shows how a craft has changed over time.
At Schnuteputzer's Hairdressing Museum, master hairdresser Willi Dörr presents the evolution of the hairdressing trade. The collection includes everyday objects and hairdressing supplies from the past 100 years, including various razor blades and soap. Rare and valuable collectibles are also on display: permanent-wave machines, complete salon furnishings dating from 1860 to 2000, and hair pictures. The exhibits range from individual everyday objects to the furnishings of entire salons. Comparing the two cultural themes, visitors will find physics and technology on the one hand, and the history of a profession and its equipment on the other.
Play Areas and Local Life
Altlußheim has six playgrounds for running around, climbing, exercising, swinging and playing ball. These activities offer a different way to plan your time in town than a museum visit. Before your visit, check which facilities are currently available and what condition they are in.
Altlußheim’s street festival took place for the 44th time on July 4, 2026, as an open-air gathering. Local associations and the municipal administration organized it for residents and numerous guests. The stage program at Rathausplatz offered entertainment for children and adults. When planning your trip, note the timing: this information describes the 2026 edition.
A public drinking-water fountain is located at the pump track near the Rheinfrankenhalle. You can get fresh drinking water there free of charge and refill your own water bottles. You can factor in this location for a convenient break; check whether the fountain is currently in service before your visit.
The Wider Region: Rhein-Neckar-Kreis
For broader travel planning, Rhein-Neckar-Kreis provides a regional framework of its own; the following examples are not attractions in Altlußheim. Schwetzingen’s Electoral Palatinate palace features a Rococo theater and a world-famous park. Much of Ladenburg’s historic town center still reflects the Middle Ages and, in some places, Roman times. Eberbach has 150 kilometers of marked hiking trails. At Lake Waidsee in Weinheim, there are areas for paddlers, sailors and windsurfers.
Together, these regional themes span culture and history as well as hiking and water sports. This distinction can help with your choice: the places and activities mentioned belong to the wider travel destination of Rhein-Neckar-Kreis, while the technology and hairdressing themes, along with the local details described, relate to Altlußheim.
