Explore Sinzheim along paths through vineyards and forests, or discover its distinctive religious buildings and leisure activities. For your plans, choose from hiking and cycling routes, cultural sites, and excursions around Bergsee and Mariengrotte. If you’re looking for accommodation, it helps to decide what you’d like to focus on during your stay: will it be the trails, St. Martin’s parish church, or a visit to Hof Ibach?
Trails through vineyards and the foothills
The Sinzheim Wine Hiking Trail runs through vineyards, with information panels explaining the grape varieties. The Sängerrundweg Winden is considered a scenic and varied hike, while the Ortenauer Wine Trail follows the foothills near Sinzheim. There are also several options for cycling: the Sinzheim cycling map shows routes around Sinzheim and may be updated. Check the latest edition when planning your trip. The Badische Spargelstraße is an alternative cycling route near Sinzheim.
St. Martin and special cultural sites
St. Martin’s parish church was built between 1898 and 1900 and is considered one of the most important architectural monuments in central Baden. Its 72.5-metre-high tower has a spiral staircase with 200 steps leading to a gallery with panoramic views. Access to the tower depends on events. At Mariengrotte, on the edge of the forest near Vormberg, you’ll find a place for peace and reflection. An open-air service is held there on a Sunday morning each year around the Feast of the Assumption; arrangements may vary. The Ebenung 14 Holy Helpers Chapel offers views across the Rhine Valley.
Forests, lakes and views
A footpath from Sinzheim to Fremersberg leads through vineyards, coniferous and mixed forests, and past Bergsee near Vormberg. Bergsee, near Mariengrotte, lies in a rocky hollow about 15 metres deep; a forest path leads from the lake to the grotto. Another body of water is Waldenecksee: it covers approximately one hectare and lies between Fremersberg and Yburg. Fremersberg Tower has an observation platform reached via 144 steps on a spiral staircase. Access arrangements may vary.
Leiberstung bathing area has a designated swimming zone marked by buoys and lane ropes. It is a seasonal facility; check the current bathing rules before visiting. This lets you combine walks and scenic viewpoints with a seasonal swimming destination, while keeping the relevant visitor conditions in mind.
Leisure and Hof Ibach
The multi-generational park is a public play and recreation area near Sinzheim’s Stadtbahn stop and has a barbecue hut available for hire. If you’re planning to rent it, check availability in advance. At Erlebnisminigolf Sinzheim, 18 holes combine skill with knowledge of regional tourism. The course features the Schwarzwaldhochstraße, the Iffezheim racecourse and the sundial at Klostergut Fremersberg. Check the latest access information before setting out.
The Hof Ibach farm shop sells its own asparagus, strawberries, raspberries, beef and eggs, as well as other regional products. The farm’s own produce available depends on the season. The farm café serves homemade cakes, gateaux and pastries, mostly made with regional ingredients; the selection also varies seasonally. The café has a play corner and a covered terrace, with a playground and a goat enclosure next door. Hof Ibach offers farm tours for kindergartens, schools and other groups; these must be arranged in advance.
