The 145.7 ha Goldkanal adds a distinctive landscape feature to Steinmauern; two cycling routes offer different route options for your trip planning. The wider destination of Rastatt adds its own cultural themes. If you are planning an overnight stay, you can first decide whether landscape, cycling or culture should be your main focus.

The Goldkanal and cycling routes in Steinmauern

The Goldkanal is a 145.7 ha lake in Steinmauern and part of the PAMINA Rhine Park. For travelers who want to focus on nature and water, it is a clear landscape highlight of the municipality.

The MÖBS Circular Route is around 40 km long and passes through the municipalities of Muggensturm, Ötigheim, Bietigheim and Steinmauern. Its approximate length gives you a tangible sense of the tour’s scale; the route includes several municipalities. This makes it possible to assess the circular route both by its length and by the places it passes through.

The PAMINA Rhine Meadows Cycle Route raises a different planning question: its original route can be used again in the districts of Rastatt, Steinmauern, Elchesheim-Illingen and Au am Rhein. Compared with the approximate length of the MĂ–BS Circular Route, the original alignment and the districts named here provide orientation. Check route conditions before setting off.

The Steinmauern Rafting Museum is part of the German-French PAMINA Rhine Park and is temporarily closed during redevelopment. If you are planning a visit, check its current status beforehand.

Culture in the wider destination of Rastatt

In the wider destination of Rastatt, the focus shifts more toward history and architecture. The Rastatt City Museum is housed in a Baroque town palace opposite the residential palace. Its permanent exhibitions cover Rastatt’s history over the past 300 years, as well as its prehistory and early history. Rastatt Palace was the first Baroque residence built on German soil and was designed on the model of Versailles. The museum and palace thus offer different ways to explore the area: local history through the exhibitions and Baroque architecture through the residence.

Favorite Palace is the oldest and only German porcelain palace to have survived in its original form. Another highlight is the Memorial Site for the Freedom Movements in German History. It presents milestones in the development of liberty and democratic traditions from the early modern period to the present day. Exhibits, models, pictures, caricatures and contemporary texts illustrate the revolutionary struggle of men and women across Germany in 1848/49, which ended with the fall of Rastatt Fortress.
