In Creglingen, art history, rose culture and waterside paths come together. This makes the town an appealing place to stay, with a variety of experiences to enjoy: a museum or a guided tour, a walk with historical stops, and time by the Münster Lakes. You can easily choose which themes to focus on according to your own interests.
Art and History in Creglingen
The Creglingen Jewish Museum’s exhibition “Roots and Paths” is dedicated to the Jewish history of Creglingen and Archshofen. It spans from the early 17th century to 1939. Guided tours are available in German and Russian, and the program also includes a tour following in Riemenschneider’s footsteps. This lets you explore local and art history with different points of focus.
The Lindleinturm in Creglingen was a defensive and watchtower within the town’s late-medieval fortifications. Its limited space is an important consideration when visiting: the tower is suitable only for small groups or groups with plenty of time. No more than six people can visit the tower at once. If you plan a visit, bear this limit in mind and check the current visiting arrangements.
In the Herrgottstal valley, about one kilometer south of Creglingen, the Herrgottskirche is home to Tilman Riemenschneider’s Marian Altar. The Mühlweg also combines a historical walk with specific places to visit: information panels offer insights into Creglingen’s history over past centuries, and the route leads to the Herrgottskirche and the Thimble Museum. Both destinations can also be reached via the Creglingen–Münster road.
Roses, Water and Trails
At the upper reservoir of the Münster Lakes, the Herrgottsbach flows directly into the lake. A fishing education trail, meadows, the stream and the forest invite you to relax and explore. In the associated municipality, the Münster Lakes also have a Kneipp basin and a short barefoot sensory path at the water playground. Water and nature are therefore a focus in their own right alongside the museums and historical sites.
Roses are also part of what Creglingen has to offer: Reinhold Schneider specifically grows medicinal and fragrant roses there, cultivating more than 100 wild rose varieties in his fields. He offers seminars and guided tours. Pension Metzger in Creglingen also offers rose seminars featuring historic fragrant roses. In Münster, a district of Creglingen, visitors can take bread-baking seminars at MANZ Backtechnik GmbH. If you would like to include a guided tour or seminar in your trip, it is advisable to ask about dates and availability in advance.
For outdoor activities in the wider Main-Tauber-Kreis travel region, the Tauber’s side valleys around Creglingen offer opportunities for hiking and cycling. The region’s cycling routes include the “Liebliches Taubertal,” “Romantische Straße” and “Gaubahn-Radweg”; the Gaubahn-Radweg connects the region with the Main Valley. The Main-Tauber-Kreis cycling map also lists 18 circular and point-to-point routes ranging from 24 to 240 kilometers. Another cultural highlight in the Main-Tauber-Kreis is the Bronnbach Cultural Program at the former Cistercian monastery of Kloster Bronnbach. It includes concerts, readings, exhibitions, wine and food events, and talks.
