Steep vineyard slopes, a historic village trail and art throughout the village offer different ways to experience Löchgau during your stay. The village is considered a starting point for hikes around the Stromberg. In addition, the 2.4-kilometre historic trail offers a clearly defined route through the village. This gives you two distinct options: outings into the countryside and a route focused on village history.
Landscape Between Vineyards and Forest
Löchgau is in the district of Ludwigsburg, in the Stuttgart administrative region of Baden-Württemberg. The municipality includes steep vineyard slopes, fertile fields, meadows and large, continuous areas of forest. The municipal area covers 1,095 hectares, of which 277 hectares are forest. The vineyards therefore make up only part of the landscape: open fields, meadows and forest also shape it. For planning your visit, local winegrowing and hikes around the Stromberg are distinct options.
Village Trail and Culture
The historic village trail is 2.4 kilometres long and follows the route around the former village wall. Parts of the wall, first mentioned in 1530, are recognised as a cultural monument. The trail offers a different focus from hikes around the Stromberg: it centres on the former village wall, while the Stromberg connection takes in the surrounding landscape.
The interior of St. Peter’s Church can be visited by appointment with the parish. Arrange your visit before you arrive. A cast of a Roman Jupiter Column stands in front of the wine press house. Sculptures by Prof. K.-H. Seemann are located in the village centre; the 3B Weinsichten Tour also draws attention to sculptures by Karl-Henning Seemann in Löchgau.
Wine and Seasonal Dining
Löchgau’s vineyard sites are considered among the best in Württemberg. A wine from Löchgau came onto the market in 1994 in collaboration with the Besigheim Felsengarten winery. The vineyard sites therefore offer a landscape theme alongside a specific historical example from the local wine industry.
The 3B Besen Tour passes through Löchgau. Its culinary offering includes seasonal Besenwirtschaften serving wines they produce themselves and hearty dishes. Take the season into account when planning this kind of dining.
Löchgau also has an outdoor swimming pool. Check seasonal opening and access arrangements before your visit.
In the Broader Destination of Ludwigsburg
In the broader destination of Ludwigsburg, terraced, steep vineyards along the Neckar and Enz rivers shape the district’s landscape. The Wunnenstein Wine Experience Trail there is about 4 kilometres long and features 60 illustrated panels about winegrowing and winemaking, as well as viewpoints. By comparison, Löchgau’s historic village trail, at 2.4 kilometres, is a shorter local route with a different focus: village history.
