Art in public spaces and the history of democracy give a stay in Lörrach two distinct themes. There is also a bilingual exhibition, views from Rötteln Castle ruins and seasonal castle festivals.
Art and History on City Walks
The Lörrach Sculpture Trail invites you to discover 24 works of art on a walk through the city centre. It includes fountains and sculptures in the pedestrian zone; works by internationally renowned artists can be viewed on a leisurely stroll through Lörrach. The focus is therefore on art in public spaces. The CityWalk History of Democracy leads through downtown Lörrach in 14 stops, covering the period from the 1848/49 Revolution to the present day. The routes have different emphases: the Sculpture Trail focuses on artworks and fountains, while the CityWalk focuses on the history of democracy.
History of the Three-Country Region and Panoramic Views
The Three-Country Exhibition explores the history and present day of the Three-Country Region in German and French. It offers bilingual access to a subject that extends beyond the city’s history. The tour through the history of the Three-Country Region leads to the Zukunftsteg; the Camera Obscura on the top floor offers spectacular views of downtown Lörrach. While the Camera Obscura looks out over the city centre, Rötteln Castle ruins offer panoramic views from both keeps.
Culture and Seasonal Events
Burghof Lörrach is a cultural and events centre. It is associated with the international STIMMEN Festival, which is held there by Burghof Lörrach GmbH. Castle festivals take place at Rötteln Castle ruins during the summer months. If you are planning your trip around the castle festivals, check the specific dates before travelling: the programme is seasonal and should match your travel dates.
Regional Perspectives in the Lörrach Destination
Within the wider Lörrach destination, the city lies in southwestern Baden-Württemberg, in the Markgräflerland, right on the Swiss border and close to the neighbouring city of Basel. The Dreiländermuseum Lörrach has a permanent exhibition covering around 1,000 square metres; the Lörrach weekly market has been running since 1403. The permanent exhibition and historic weekly market offer different perspectives: the museum and market tradition each provide their own way of looking at the destination.
The wine trails on Tüllinger Berg are also part of the wider Lörrach destination. Starting in Lörrach-Tüllingen, the Tüllinger Wine Trail connects the Riehen Wine Trail with the Weiler Wine Trail. The interconnected wine trails pass through around 90 hectares of vineyards, including the „Riehener Schlipfer“, „Tüllinger Sonnenbrunnen“, „Weiler Schlipf“, „Haltinger Stiege“ and „Ötlinger Sonnhole“ sites. The Tüllinger Wine Trail offers views of the Wiesental and Rhine valleys and insights into the work of local winemakers throughout the year. This regional focus brings together viticulture, landscape and the work involved over the course of the year.
