Bad Bellingen offers a variety of ways to spend your stay: at the Balinea Therme, the focus is on bathing and relaxing in thermal waters, while the spa park and nature trails offer other experiences. When planning your day, it is worth distinguishing between a visit with fixed opening hours, a guided tour and exploring on your own. This makes it easy to choose what best suits your interests – from time at the thermal baths to nature watching and local history.

Thermal Waters and Opening Hours

The Balinea Therme has a total of 1,000 m² of water surface for bathing and relaxing in thermal waters. The mineral thermal baths are open daily from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm; last admission is at 9:00 pm. The sauna park is open daily from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm. When planning your visit, be sure to keep the last admission time for the mineral thermal baths in mind. Opening hours may change; check the official website before your visit.

Spa Park and Nature Trails

The spa park was once a floodplain forest directly on the banks of a branch of the Rhine. The well-signposted Bird Trail runs through the park. During an early-morning walk, you can observe thirty to forty bird species there.

The Insect Trail is a bilingual nature trail in German and French, designed for children and families to introduce them to the world of insects and other small creatures. It is laid out as a circular route. At each of five stops, one animal is presented as a representative of an entire animal group. The recurring idea – using one animal as a way into a larger group – gives the circular route a clear thread.

A guided tour of Bad Bellingen starts in the spa park and passes the Insect Trail, Barefoot Trail and Bird Trail. Check the tour’s availability before your visit. The “Zeigmal” app lets you explore Bad Bellingen at your own pace; tour guide Susi accompanies your exploration with informative audio messages. The two formats differ in how they are structured: the guided tour starts in the spa park and passes the trails mentioned, while the app lets you explore the town at your own pace. The app’s availability may change.

In the village of Bamlach, another guided tour leads from the Fountain of the Senses to the inclusive Marienheim winery, through the vineyards to the Maria Hügel Chapel, with its magnificent views. The return route goes to the parish church and local history museum. Before your trip, check the provider’s information on tour availability.

In the wider destination of Lörrach

The wider destination of Lörrach has its own focus on culture and wine country. Lörrach is in the southwest of Baden-Württemberg, in the Markgräflerland, right on the Swiss border and very close to the neighboring city of Basel. The Dreiländermuseum Lörrach has a permanent exhibition covering around 1,000 square meters. The Lörrach Sculpture Trail runs through the city, featuring 23 sculptures, fountains and monuments created by renowned sculptors. The Burghof Lörrach’s cultural program includes singing and music, dance, cabaret, literature and children’s theater; Burghof Lörrach GmbH organizes the international STIMMEN Festival every year. The Lörrach weekly market has been running since 1403.

The wine trails on Tüllinger Berg also offer a distinctive perspective on the landscape. Starting in Lörrach-Tüllingen, the Tüllinger Wine Trail links the Riehener Wine Trail with the Weiler Wine Trail. Together, the connected trails pass through around 90 hectares of vineyards in the wine-growing areas of “Riehener Schlipfer,” “Tüllinger Sonnenbrunnen,” “Weiler Schlipf,” “Haltinger Stiege” and “Ötlinger Sonnhole.” The Tüllinger Wine Trail offers views of the Wiesental and Rhine valleys and insights into the work of winegrowers throughout the year.
