Hertingen combines an easy-rated circular trail with local history dating back to Roman times. The route through meadows, forest and vineyards starts at the Hertingen community hall. The approximately 4.4-kilometre trail takes around 1.5 to 2 hours and includes 92 metres of elevation gain. The estimated walking time helps you plan the hike as a standalone activity during your stay.

Hiking Through Varied Landscapes

The circular trail follows a stream, passes through the forest around Sonnholen and runs through a large vineyard. Together, the stream, forest and vineyards make for varied stretches of landscape along the same route. The trail is considered easy and follows farm and forest tracks. Hikers may also spot wildlife along the way. As trail conditions can vary by season, check them before setting out.

Local History and Events

Iron was smelted in Hertingen as early as Roman times, and ironstone was mined until the second half of the 19th century. Hertingen’s church was rebuilt in the 1780s and is centrally located in the village centre. The MSC Rebland grass-track racing event takes place in Hertingen every year and attracts numerous visitors each time. If the race fits your plans, check the date of the next event in advance.

Bad Bellingen: Thermal Baths and Nature Trails

The Balinea thermal baths in Bad Bellingen offer a total of 1,000 m² of water surface for swimming and relaxing in thermal water. The mineral thermal baths are open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.; last admission is at 9 p.m. The sauna park at the Balinea thermal baths is open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Note the difference between closing time and last admission at the mineral thermal baths; check the opening hours before your visit, as they may change.

A guided tour of Bad Bellingen starts in the spa gardens and passes the insect trail, barefoot path and bird trail. Guided tours can be booked; check availability in advance. The spa gardens were once a floodplain forest right on the bank of an arm of the Rhine.

The Bad Bellingen Insect Trail is a circular route designed for children and families. In both German and French, it introduces visitors to the world of insects and other small animals. At each of the five stations, one animal is presented as representative of an entire group of animals. This gives the trail a narrower focus on nature than the guided tour, which also passes the barefoot and bird trails. To explore Bad Bellingen at your own pace, you can use the “Zeigmal” app; tour guide Susi accompanies the exploration with informative audio messages. Check in advance whether the app is currently available.
