Church art spanning several centuries, a Way of St. James route and paths through the Ried landscapes offer different perspectives on Oberteuringen. The municipality lies amid extensive orchards at the foot of the Gehrenberg; the Rotach flows through the municipal area. As one of the four holiday destinations in the Gehrenberg-Lake Constance holiday region, Oberteuringen combines this landscape with cultural experiences and activities close to nature.

The Rotach, the Ried and signposted paths

Oberteuringen has more than 80 kilometres of signposted paths for hiking and cycling. Some paths through the Ried pass through the “Altweiherwiesen” and “Hepbacher-Leimbacher Ried” nature reserves. Please observe the applicable path restrictions there. In the hiking area, the Bodenseepfad nature trail provides information about local flora and fauna on information boards; in the area around the Altweiherwiesen, it explores a subject that also shapes the paths through the Ried.

At Rotachpark, there is access to the river and an island where children can play and run around in nature. Alongside the signposted hiking and cycling paths, the municipality also offers river access and a natural play area as distinct features.

Choose hikes by duration and distance

The listed distances and walking times make it easier to choose a route that fits the time you have available:

  • Hiking Trail 8, the “Rotachweg,” is 5.2 kilometres long and takes about two hours to walk.
  • The “Alpenblickweg” and the “Teuringer Riedweg” are each 10.1 kilometres long; the listed walking time for both is about 4.5 hours.
  • The “Teuringer Bächlespfad” covers 12.9 kilometres and takes about 5.5 hours to walk.

The Rotachweg is therefore the shortest of the routes listed. The Alpenblickweg and Teuringer Riedweg have the same listed distance and walking time; the Bächlespfad is longer and has a correspondingly longer estimated time. If you are looking for a longer route that returns to its starting point, consider the 14-kilometre “Tourtipp durch die Oberteuringer Lande”: it runs from Oberteuringen through Unterteuringen, Hepbach, Stadel, Neuhaus, Hefigkofen, Dürnast, Reute bei Taldorf and Bibruck, before returning to Oberteuringen. Signposting and route conditions may change.

Church art and history

The ceiling painting in the nave of St. Martin’s parish church depicts the Nativity of Christ. It was created by Ravensburg artist Gebhard Fugel (1863–1939). The church’s stained-glass windows were designed by Wilhelm Geyer (1900–1968), a professor of art from Ulm. The paintings and stained-glass windows thus offer two distinct ways to experience the church interior.

In the district of Neuhaus stands St. George’s Chapel, built in 1707 with Baroque furnishings. It houses a Late Gothic statue of the Virgin Mary from a Crucifixion group, dated to around 1480. The chapel and the statue therefore date from different periods: the chapel is from the early 18th century, while the statue is from a considerably earlier period.

The Way of St. James and other experiences

The Way of St. James reaches Oberteuringen’s municipal boundary near Blankenried and continues via Rammetshofen to the district of Unterteuringen. Along the Way of St. James described here, pilgrims can have their pilgrim passports stamped and sign the pilgrims’ book. If you plan to follow the route, you can check the current signposting and route conditions in advance.

For culture enthusiasts, the “Mühle” cultural centre is a meeting place for fans of art, culture, concerts and comedy. The programme may change. Guided apple tours are also among the experiences available in Oberteuringen; dates and booking arrangements may vary. A skate park is located on Jahnweg, by the sports hall. Please check local conditions before visiting.
