Old apple varieties, orchards and local history offer different ways to explore Frickingen. Apple varieties take centre stage on the orchard trail; St. Martin’s Church and the museums tell the story of the town and the region. When planning your visit, it is also worth checking the routes, seasonal opening hours and bus connections.

Fruit Growing and Trails

The Frickingen Orchard Trail starts at the sports centre, passes through orchards and loops back to the village, sharing information about old apple varieties along the way. It combines a specific focus on fruit growing with a clearly described route. The Apple Loop connects the three districts of Frickingen, Altheim and Leustetten. The fifth stage of the Bodenseekreis Jubilee Trail also passes through Altheim, a district of Frickingen. At the “Himmelreich” wetland, visitors can admire the diversity of nature.

The Weingarten Chapel is a nearby destination outside Frickingen, located east of the town on a hill amid orchards. It is open on Sundays and public holidays from May to October. As opening hours are seasonal, it is best to check them before your visit.

Church, Museums and Local History

The 15th-century Catholic Church of St. Martin still forms the original centre of Frickingen. The Lake Constance Fruit Museum at Kirchstraße 9 adds a perspective on the history of fruit growing around Lake Constance: a multimedia presentation with four scenes explores the subject. Check the current arrangements for visits before you go.

Altheim is also home to various landmarks of history and technology. The old cemetery adjoins St. Pankratius Church. The churchyard dates back to the 16th century, was closed in the 1960s and, with its listed graves, offers a glimpse of earlier cemetery culture. The Tüftlerwerkstatt Museum in Altheim is a mechanics workshop more than 100 years old, powered by a water turbine, from which various “tinkerers” emerged.

Leustetten is home to the Lohmühle, built in 1835, a testament to the old craft of tanning. Volunteer guides operate the mill wheel and connected machinery for visitors. Check in advance for current guided-tour arrangements.

Frickingen’s cultural programme includes three Salemertal concerts with the Bodensee Philharmonic Orchestra of Konstanz. They take place in spring, autumn and on New Year’s Day, and have been among the highlights of cultural life for 30 years. Check the current concert dates and ticket availability if you would like to plan your stay around them.

Bus Connections and the Region

For regional context: the Bodenseekreis district stretches along almost the entire northern shore of Lake Constance in Baden-Württemberg, extending into the Upper Swabian hills and, to the east, the West Allgäu hills. Its landscape is shaped by Lake Constance and the adjoining hills, with orchards, vineyards, meadows and forests. The Bodenseekreis district has 57.7 kilometres of Lake Constance shoreline.
