Aidlingen can be explored through two distinct themes: the municipality’s protected landscapes and the cultural history of Aidlingen and its districts. More than half of the municipal area is protected as a nature or landscape conservation area. At the same time, the East German Heritage Room and Deufringen Castle offer specific cultural themes. When planning your trip, you can therefore decide whether to focus on the landscape, local history, or both.

Landscape conservation around Venusberg

The Venusberg Nature Reserve covers around 115 hectares and is the largest nature reserve in Böblingen district. The heights of Venusberg offer good views. The figures refer to two different scales: protection of more than half of the municipal area describes the municipality, while around 115 hectares is the size of the Venusberg nature reserve.

Storrenberg lies west of Dachtel. The protected area is characterized by juniper heaths, flower-rich meadows, hedges, and old fruit trees. Thus, alongside the views from the heights of Venusberg, Storrenberg’s specific landscape features provide another nature-related theme in the municipality. Dachtel is the local reference point for Storrenberg; the features described are those of the protected area there.

Trails and stops

A stop on the soil education trail is located at Lehenweiher along the LandTour Venusberg route. Three nature portals along the route draw attention to natural works of art and explain the Heckengäu’s landscape ecology. The LandTour thus connects different perspectives: the soil stop at Lehenweiher and the information on natural art and landscape ecology along the route.

In the municipality, the Hans-Mozer-Weg and Jubiläumsweg trails also invite you to explore the countryside around Dachtel. These two names give you further specific starting points for choosing an excursion around this district.

Culture in Aidlingen and its districts

The East German Heritage Room of the Federation of Expellees is on the second floor of the Hopfenhaus in Aidlingen. Its collection focuses on Carpathian German traditional costumes from the Upper Zips. This clearly defined focus offers a distinct way to explore cultural history alongside the municipality’s landscape-related themes.

Deufringen is also part of the municipality of Aidlingen; it has been part of the municipality since 1971. Deufringen Castle has shaped the townscape for centuries and is a reminder of the Lords of Gültlingen. Today, it is a cultural center. Deufringen’s local history thus complements the heritage room’s collection in Aidlingen with a different theme, without turning the two places into a single attraction.

In the wider Böblingen travel region

For a broader look at the region, consider the Heckengäu Adventure Trail. In the wider Böblingen travel destination, it is described as a 23-kilometer hiking trail around Aidlingen. Stops along the route include a soil education trail, a sensory area, and a low ropes course. This makes it a distinct hiking experience with a range of themes; it is a different point of reference from the soil education trail stop at Lehenweiher on the LandTour Venusberg.

SCULPTOURA adds a cultural dimension to Böblingen district. This open-air gallery features around 100 sculptures made of wood, metal, and stone, set amid the landscapes of Schönbuchlichtung, the Würm Valley, and the Heckengäu. Together with Aidlingen’s heritage room and Deufringen Castle, it shows the different ways cultural themes take shape in the region: as a collection with a clearly defined focus, as a castle that shapes the townscape, and as works of art in a landscape. SCULPTOURA is an offering of Böblingen district.
