Lehenweiler combines a clearly dated local history with nature and hiking attractions around Venusberg. When planning your visit, it is worth distinguishing between destinations and trails by their specific features: some are in or accessible from Lehenweiler, while others are mentioned in connection with the wider travel destination of Aidlingen.

How Lehenweiler Came to Be

On 7 June 1709, Duke Eberhard Ludwig granted two veteran cavalry guardsmen the right to settle in the area known as “Lehen”. The settlement grew into what is now Lehenweiler. The village name thus recalls the stated starting point of the settlement; the year places the beginning of the village’s history within a specific timeframe.

Juniper Heath and Nature Conservation on Venusberg

The Venusberg nature reserve is accessible from Lehenweiler; signposted hiking car parks are available. Nearby, a nature trail for children and adults follows easy paths through the juniper heath. The “Wacholderheide Brunnenberg” extensive natural monument, covering around three hectares, is also located near Lehenweiler. These two named landscape destinations offer different points of reference for planning your visit: Venusberg, with its nature reserve and nature trail, and Wacholderheide Brunnenberg, with its own natural monument classification.

Hiking Trails with Different Features

The “Mit dem Schäfer ziehen” (Walking with the Shepherd) hiking route reaches Lehenweiler after crossing the K1063 road. There, the trail is marked with a blue diamond and runs alongside a wet meadow.

The Land.Tour Venusberg follows a different route: after a short, steep climb, it reaches the local connecting road between Aidlingen and Lehenweiler, then continues along a field track towards Venusberg. This gives you a specific distinction to consider when choosing: the first route is defined by the K1063 crossing, the blue diamond and the wet meadow; the second follows the climb with a section on the road and then a field track.

Cycling to Venusberg

A cycling tour is also described: the “RadL Radtour 3: Venusberg” route passes the “Lehenweiler” signpost and crosses the plateau to the Venusberg nature reserve. After the turn-off towards the nature reserve, the route includes a resting place with views to the south, east and west. This tour therefore offers a different perspective on Venusberg from the hiking trails mentioned above.

Aidlingen as the Wider Travel Context

The wider travel destination of Aidlingen includes a larger natural area: more than half of Aidlingen’s municipal area is protected as a nature or landscape conservation area. The Venusberg nature reserve there covers around 115 hectares and is the largest nature reserve in the Böblingen district. The heights of Venusberg offer good views. These details refer to Aidlingen and the landscape area associated with it, not to additional features of Lehenweiler itself.

A distinct cultural highlight in Aidlingen is the East German Heritage Room of the Federation of Expellees, located on the second floor of the Hopfenhaus. Its collection focuses on Carpathian German traditional costumes from the Upper Zips. This adds a clearly separate cultural and historical theme in the wider travel destination of Aidlingen to the nature-focused attractions around Lehenweiler.

Plan for Weekend Restrictions

The small road between Aidlingen and Lehenweiler is closed to car traffic at weekends. Check local restrictions before your trip.
