The Jettingen Panoramic Cycling Loop makes a scenic bike ride the clear focus when choosing where to visit: The route is about 25 kilometres long and forms a loop. There are also historical traces that make Jettingen interesting beyond the route’s length. Those weighing up cycling and cultural history will find different ways to shape their stay.

Cycling Route and Viewpoints

The loop can be started practically anywhere. Official starting points are at the community centre, Oberjettingen Cemetery, the FCU sports centre in Unterjettingen, and at the inn in Sindlingen. If you want to use a specific official starting point for your plans, check it before travelling. This lets you choose your starting point to suit your own travel plans without having to commit to just one.

There are 16 viewpoints along the route in total. Information boards explain the panorama at each one and provide context for the views. Another distinctive viewpoint is the old Jettingen water tower: It stands at 626 metres and is described as the highest point in the Böblingen district and the city of Nagold, which meet there. From the tower, the view extends across the Black Forest’s peaks; on clear days, you can see as far as the Hornisgrinde and Feldberg.

There is a barbecue area at the edge of the forest by the sports field.

Stories and Historical Traces

The castle in Sindlingen was the widow’s residence of Franziska von Hohenheim. She was first the mistress and later the second wife of Duke Karl Eugen of Württemberg. The sequence of these two roles illustrates the changing historical connection to the Württemberg court.

A different story is associated with the wooden memorial “Beim Arm.” It stands on the Panoramic Cycling Loop about six kilometres past Oberjettingen Cemetery. According to local tradition, a herb woman was murdered there on her way home about 160 years ago; her hand, said to have been protruding from the ground, supposedly brought the crime to light. The story is therefore presented as a tradition, not as a verified historical account.

In the forest just to the left behind the shooting club, there are remains of a Celtic quadrangular rampart about 2,000 years old. It was probably built as a place of worship. The castle refers to a specific person and her connection to the Württemberg court; the memorial focuses on an event passed down through tradition, while the rampart’s presumed purpose remains uncertain. These different historical perspectives give you more than one theme to consider when choosing where to visit.

More Things to See in the Greater Böblingen Destination

In the wider Böblingen destination, the Herzog-Jäger Trail in Waldenbuch offers a hiking focus: It is 13.7 kilometres long and features numerous highlights and interactive stations. In Böblingen, the German Peasants’ War Museum is dedicated to the Peasants’ War of 1525. Visitors can print title pages of pamphlets from the Reformation and the Peasants’ War using a working, true-to-scale replica of an early printing press. These destinations complement Jettingen with distinctive themes in the wider Böblingen destination.
