A 6.1-kilometre circular route and a 0.40-kilometre marked trail offer different ways to experience nature in Saint-Guillaume. There is also the mare de Bouvetaire wetland and opportunities to visit farms. So choosing a route involves more than just distance: the routes have different themes, while each farm has its own visiting arrangements.

Circular Routes and Plant Diversity

The “Au milieu du bocage” route is a 6.1-kilometre circular route that starts and ends in Saint-Guillaume. Along the way, you can discover the mare de Bouvetaire wetland. Starting and finishing in the village gives the walk a clear local connection, while the wetland adds a specific nature theme to the route.

The marked “Sentier des arbres” is a 0.40-kilometre circular trail with 10 metres of elevation gain; its stated duration is one hour. It introduces around 40 plant species, including trees, shrubs and woody plants. An accompanying booklet created by René explains them. The contrast highlights a different focus: the longer route centres on discovering the wetland, while the short “Sentier des arbres” explores plant diversity with explanations. The one-hour duration also provides a specific timeframe for planning.

Wetland and Local Landscape

The mare de Bouvetaire is a temporary pond in the Espace Naturel Sensible, a nature area with great floral and faunal diversity. The pond is home to the carnivorous plant Utricularia; the Espace Naturel Sensible is also home to the great crested newt. This brings specific animal species into focus alongside the plant life.

Saint-Guillaume is an agricultural community and borders the Montagne de la Pale. Agriculture and nature thus offer two distinct themes for exploring the area.

Agriculture and Farm Visits

The chèvrerie de Saint Guillaume is located in the heart of the Parc naturel régional du Vercors, within the municipality of Saint-Guillaume. There, goat’s milk is made into plain and flavoured lactic cheeses, tommes and faisselles. From April to September, the chèvrerie offers farm tours and activities by prior reservation. Confirm the reservation arrangements before your visit.

At La Ferme de Bartabelle, an outdoor tour includes visits to the nursery with calves and piglets, the free-range pigs and the cows. Visitors can also sample farm products made from the milk of Jersey cows. Themed farm days include milking the cows and, depending on the option chosen, making fermented dairy products, cheese, frozen desserts, pastries or biscuits. Check the visiting arrangements before your visit. This makes it possible to plan the tour, tastings and themed farm days as different aspects of the farm experience.
