Saint-André-En-Vivarais offers several ways to shape a stay: landscapes featuring sucs and forests, historic buildings, and opportunities to discover a farm or explore trails on foot and by mountain bike. When choosing accommodation, consider which of these interests you want to make the focus of your stay. Details about the area and routes show how varied the options are.

Landscapes of Sucs, Watercourses, and Forests

Several sucs define the landscape of Saint-André-En-Vivarais; their average elevation is 1,100 metres. The Doux forms the commune’s eastern boundary. The Effangeas stream crosses the commune north of the main village. Coniferous forests can be found in the Bois de Montivert, Bois des Effangeas, and Bois de Lacou.

Architecture and Local Heritage

The Maison de Béate near Les Ruches was established in 1853 and is considered a rare example in the Ardèche. The Saint-André parish church was built in campaigns in 1859, 1860, 1862, and 1864. Its floor plan is in the shape of a Latin cross; its architectural features also include a nave and rib vaults. Those interested in historic buildings will find different points of interest here: a rare example near Les Ruches and a church built in several campaigns.

Biodiversity and Activities at Ferme de Brameloup

The one-kilometre-long, waymarked Sentier Pédagogique Biodiversité is located at Ferme de Brameloup. The educational trail is intended for self-guided visits; guided tours are available by reservation. The farm also offers farm tours and honey tastings, and has a farm shop. This makes it possible to treat nature and farm activities as separate highlights of a visit. Check seasonal visitor information for the trail and the reservation conditions for guided tours in advance.

On Foot or by Mountain Bike

The Chemin Louis Pize is a hiking trail across a hilly upland plateau. Its description mentions open landscapes and sweeping views; some sections pass through forest. The same route therefore combines open scenery with wooded sections. The Le Château de Montivert – N°35 route passes through fir forests and crosses small streams. Along the way, it offers remarkable views of the Monts du Velay and Mont Mézenc. The descriptions of these two routes emphasize different features: the Chemin Louis Pize highlights the plateau, with open landscapes and forest sections, while the Le Château de Montivert route features fir forests, streams, and named viewpoints.

For mountain bikers, the Circuit des Châteaux – VTT FFC N°30 NOIR is described as a challenging loop starting from Saint-André-En-Vivarais. It is 28 kilometres long, includes 658 metres of climbing, and runs mainly along wide forest tracks. The route passes Château de Montivert and Château des Baumes through the forests of the upland plateau. Etape 2 of the Tour de Pays VTT Ardèche Hautes Vallées is a different route: it passes below Château de Montivert, then follows the Chemin de la Béate and enters Saint-André-En-Vivarais at the level of the church. The Circuit is a loop, while the second description covers a stage with named connections between paths. Route conditions may change; check the latest information before setting out.

Plan Your Visits
