Laboule lies at an altitude of 680 metres at the foot of the Tanargue massif. For planning your trip, a challenging circular hike, a summer producers’ market and cultural and nature activities organised by local associations offer a range of options. You can tailor your stay around hiking, a visit to the market or a programme that suits you.

Hiking with a clear time commitment

Le sentier des granges is a difficult 14.7-kilometre circular hike. The route is listed as taking six hours, with 787 metres of ascent. This gives you a good sense of the time required: plan for a long day of hiking with a significant elevation gain, and check mountain conditions before setting out. The circular route starts and ends at Laboule village square.

The Tour de Laboule is another trail maintained by the Laboule festival committee. Together with le sentier des granges, it offers a second named option for hiking enthusiasts. The duration, distance and elevation gain are specified for le sentier des granges; for the Tour de Laboule, the focus here is on its upkeep by the festival committee.

A summer market with a changing selection

From early July to late August, Laboule’s producers’ market takes place every Friday evening from 6 pm. It is held in the shaded square at the foot of the church. As the market is seasonal, it is worth checking the dates again before your trip.

The selection includes local food and handcrafted products, such as cheese, bread, honey, vegetables, jams and chestnut products, as well as artisan ice cream and crĂŞpes. Woodwork, textiles and natural wine round out the selection. What is on offer may vary from one market date to another.

Pastoral heritage and music

The cabane pastorale du Tanargue is part of the agricultural heritage in the municipality of Laboule. It was rebuilt from the ruins of a former summer grazing farm. In summer, shepherds use the hut during the transhumance season. The site thus brings together built heritage and the shepherds’ continuing seasonal use.

The Saison musicale de Laboule is organised by the association for the renovation of the church. If a concert is a key part of your stay, check the announced dates in advance: the 2026 programme is time-specific, and future programmes may differ.

Activities by local associations and nature

At the Ecocentre de Laboule, activities depend on the calendar and what is available. Activities organised by the association include pottery and weaving workshops, concerts and film screenings, agroecology and hikes. There are also stays in the wild, wildlife observation and watching, and community work days. The programme therefore includes practical activities as well as cultural and nature-related experiences.

The 2026 programme also features nature-focused stays for exploring and observing wildlife and taking practical action to support it. They are linked to seasonal activities at the Ecocentre and in the surrounding area. If you are planning one of these stays, check the specific dates.

The Association des deux vallées operates in Rocles, Joannas, Laboule, Beaumont and Valgorge. The association organises outings to discover local fauna, flora and architecture. The Réserve biologique mixte du Grand Tanargue is also part of the landscape: it lies in the Chambons and Tanargue state forests, and Laboule is among the municipalities listed for the reserve.
