Discover Baix through two distinct themes: historic buildings and lanes in the village, or walking and cycling routes. When planning your trip, it helps to decide first which of these aspects you would like to explore further. The ViaRhôna follows the Rhône through Baix; hiking trails offer a different perspective on the village and its surroundings.

On foot and by bike

The ViaRhôna follows the Rhône through Baix, making it a useful reference point for a cycling trip. Check current route conditions before setting off. Separately, the Passerelle Himalayenne de Baix can be crossed on foot or by bicycle. It is located in the natural surroundings along the banks of the Rhône. The bridge offers its own way to experience the river landscape, without being equated with any particular route.

If you would rather hike, consider Le Chemin de Corbières: the path leads to a viewpoint overlooking the Rhône Valley. The wooded hills above Baix also offer hiking trails. As the information available for these paths varies, they should not automatically be treated as a single hiking route. Check current trail conditions before setting out; the same applies to Le Chemin de Corbières.

Choosing between a cycling or hiking focus therefore depends on what you have in mind: the ViaRhôna passes through Baix as a cycling route, while Le Chemin de Corbières leads to a viewpoint overlooking the valley. The Passerelle is described separately as a crossing for pedestrians and cyclists.

Medieval lanes and historic buildings

In the village itself, you can explore medieval lanes and vaulted passageways. The clock tower dates back at least to the 13th century and is classified as a historic monument. At its base is an arch dating from 1600, through which Rue Royale once ran. The tower was also restored that year. These details bring together different historical periods: the tower’s early dating, its later restoration and the former course of a street through the arch.

Other buildings add to this picture. The oldest part of Saint Nicolas Church, dedicated to Saint Nicholas, dates from the 14th century. Saint Joseph Chapel was built in the early 19th century on the site of the former Notre-Dame chapel belonging to the former hospital, and was restored in 2004. The Fontaine et lavoir ensemble was listed as a historic monument by decree dated 29 August 1984. Together, these buildings offer different points of interest if you would like to focus your stay on Baix’s history and architecture.

Plan your stay in Baix

When looking for a hotel in Baix, your planned activities can help you decide: would you like to make time for the lanes and historic buildings, take a cycling trip on the ViaRhôna, or walk to a viewpoint? These options differ in subject and mode of travel; they should not be treated as a combined day itinerary simply because they are mentioned together.
