Explore Saint-Clair through three specific travel interests: architectural history, hiking and golf lessons. The Romanesque church adds a cultural highlight, while Château de Gourdan combines traces of history with garden areas. For active days, two hiking trails with different kinds of wayfinding are in focus. At Golf du Domaine de Saint-Clair, private and group lessons are available. This lets you shape your stay around culture, scenery or an activity, without committing to a fixed itinerary.
Church and château: architectural history in several stages
The Romanesque church of Saint-Clair is distinguished by its square bell tower. The church’s first construction dates to the 14th century, on the site of a chapel. This architectural feature is therefore linked to a building history that began at the former chapel site.
Château de Gourdan is a classical 18th-century château with a French parterre and a large orangery. One wing also preserves part of an earlier manor house dating from 1578. By decree of 30 August 1967, the façades and roofs of Château de Gourdan and its north tower, as well as the orangery, the southern parterre and the gardens, were listed as historic monuments. The protected area thus includes specifically named parts of the gardens as well as the château itself. The dates refer to different aspects: 1578 marks the earlier manor house, the 18th century dates the classical château, and 1967 is the year of the listing.
Hiking: starting point and scenery
The Tour du Bassin d’Annonay begins at Place des Ecoles in Saint-Clair. From Saint-Clair, it follows the GR de pays du Bassin d’Annonay and is marked in yellow and red. There is a water point and public toilets at the starting point. A named starting point, the trail designation and the marker colors are specific wayfinding details for this hike.
The Gourdan route leads from Saint-Clair through green meadows to Bois de Bégut and continues towards Savas. Here, the focus is on the sequence of landscapes and the direction: the route passes through meadows to Bois de Bégut, then continues towards Savas. By contrast, the starting point and markers are specified precisely for the Tour du Bassin. The two hikes can therefore be considered using different points of reference, without implying that their routes are the same.
An Info-Rando sign stands in the square in front of Saint-Clair town hall, providing another specific wayfinding point for hikers.
Golf lessons in two formats
Both private and group lessons are offered at Golf du Domaine de Saint-Clair. If you would like to include golf in your stay, the lesson format is one practical consideration: private lessons or group lessons. This gives you another clearly identified activity to choose from, alongside architectural history and hiking.
