Lagarde-D'apt lies on the Plateau d'Albion at an altitude of more than 1,000 metres and offers several distinct ways to explore: stargazing, lavender-themed experiences and traces of local history. If you are looking for a holiday rental, it helps to decide first what you want to focus on during your stay. For the night sky, the Observatoire Sirene is a highlight; for lavender, you can choose between a tourist route and a horse-drawn carriage ride. The chapel and village history add a cultural and historical dimension.

Stargazing at the Observatoire Sirene

The Observatoire astronomique Sirene welcomes visitors in the municipality of Lagarde-D'apt for stargazing and to explore the sky. Its programme includes night walks, evenings devoted to discovering the sky and daytime visits. You can therefore plan your visit around the time of day and the activity on offer. The observatory also has a 360-degree panorama.

Visitors are welcomed year-round, by prior reservation only. Book in advance and check the current programme when planning your visit. The observatory is accessible to people with reduced mobility; check the specific arrangements before you travel.

The Plateau d'Albion and its views

At an altitude of more than 1,000 metres, Lagarde-D'apt is set on the Plateau d'Albion. From Mont Saint Pierre, the highest point in the Monts de Vaucluse, the view stretches over Mont Ventoux and Montagne de Lure to the snow-capped peaks of the Pre-Alps. These named mountains and the sweeping panorama give the landscape its distinctive character.

The natural environment also includes the Réserve biologique intégrale de Lagarde-d'Apt. This protected area covers 124.15 hectares and is classified as IUCN category 1a. Along with the high altitude and the view from Mont Saint Pierre, it offers another way to experience the landscape, alongside activities centred on the night sky and lavender.

Lavender: a route or a horse-drawn carriage ride

The “Routes des Lavande” route includes a stop in Lagarde-D'apt to admire the lavender fields and take a photo break. The appearance of the fields varies with the season. The route covers the journey from the fields and harvest to distillation and specialities such as baguette with lavender flower water, touching on cultivation, processing and culinary uses.

Another option is the “Balade en calèche avec L'Or des Lavandes”: this one- to three-hour horse-drawn carriage ride passes through the Fra family’s organic lavender farm and shares information about lavender cultivation, distillation, properties and history. The route stop is focused on viewing and photography; the carriage ride lasts between one and three hours and explores the subject in greater depth on the farm. L'Or des Lavandes also offers direct sales of products from its own farm, made using know-how passed down through more than seven generations.

The chapel and local history

The Chapelle Notre Dame de Lamaron dates from the 11th century and was partly rebuilt in 1667. Its architectural features include a single-nave body, a semicircular apse dating from the 11th century, a porch and a bell gable. These features offer a tangible glimpse into the chapel’s building history.

The village’s origins are also precisely dated: Lagarde-d'Apt was founded in 1626 on the initiative of the Duke of Lesdiguières, who offered land to thirteen families. In the 20th century, the village was also an important centre of the French Resistance. Numerous parachute drops took place there, organised by Fernand Jean d'Apt and the Maquis Ventoux.

Seasonal cuisine

Le Bistrot de Lagarde serves refined, colourful Mediterranean cuisine that changes with the seasons. Local produce and the chef’s Italian roots shape the menu. If you plan to eat there, check the latest information about the cuisine and service when planning your visit.
