La Tranche-sur-Mer offers a range of reasons to explore: water sports lessons, cycling, and maritime and church history. This allows you to assess the destination based on whether you would rather focus on water sports, cycling routes or local culture.

Water sports: lessons and other activities

The Centre Nautique Tranchais offers year-round lessons in sailing, surfing, kitesurfing and stand-up paddleboarding. Courses range from introductory lessons to further skills development. This range, from getting started to building on your skills, can be a factor to consider when planning.

Water sports activities in La Tranche-sur-Mer also include stand-up paddleboarding, coastal walking and pedal boating. Kitesurfing, towed-buoy rides and wakeboarding are also available. The selection therefore ranges from lessons in several sports to a variety of individual activities on the water and along the coast.

Cycling routes, circuits and coastal forest

The La Tranche-sur-Mer Tourist Office offers four cycling circuits ranging from 5.5 to 19 km. They pass through marshland, along beaches, through the forest and through various neighbourhoods of the resort. When shortlisting options, you can use the distance as one point of comparison and the landscapes along the way as another.

In addition, La Tranche-sur-Mer has more than 50 km of cycle paths. Cars do not have priority on Vélorue sections. The four circuits provide specific distances, while the figure for the cycle path network describes its overall extent. This makes it possible to consider a particular route and the size of the network as two distinct aspects of cycling.

Along the coast, the western part of the La Tranche-sur-Mer area is covered by a forest of maritime pines and holm oaks. The forest is open to the public and is suitable for many outdoor activities. This adds the forest and coast as distinct themes for trip planning, alongside the landscapes found on the cycling circuits.

Lighthouse, church and maritime heritage

The history of the Phare du Grouin can be traced through three dates: the lighthouse was built in 1866. The original structure was destroyed by an explosion in 1944; a new lighthouse began operating in 1953. The chronology thus distinguishes between the construction of the first structure, its destruction and the opening of its replacement.

The present-day Saint-Nicolas Church was built in 1868 and houses a pipe organ. Another chapter in the local heritage is the fish weir at Pointe du Grouin du Cou: it is listed as maritime heritage of the Vendée. Its restoration now makes it possible to study the biological functioning of the intertidal zone, its increasing biodiversity and its role in protecting the coast. It also serves to inform and raise public awareness of the sensitivity of marine and coastal habitats.

The Parc des Floralies

The Parc des Floralies is open to the public year-round; daily opening hours may change. If your visit depends on the time, check the opening hours before planning. Visitors can discover the life of bees in the educational beehive. Donkeys, Poitou donkeys and goats can also be seen there. The park therefore combines an educational offering about bees with encounters with the animals listed above.
