Chéméré offers a variety of ways to spend your stay: enjoy some activity in the leisure park, explore walking routes, discover the landscape of Forêt de Princé and learn about the area’s architectural history. The circuits around Plan d’eau de la Blanche and along Circuit des Chênes differ considerably in length; special access requirements apply when visiting Forêt de Princé.

Leisure park and walking routes

Parc de loisirs de Chéméré has a large children’s playground with play equipment for children up to 12 years old, a skatepark and a pump track. There is also a fitness trail around the pond. Admission to the park is free year-round. Check the latest information about the facilities and visiting conditions before your visit.

Circuit des Chênes is a 7.8 km circular cycling route with 28 m of positive elevation gain, classified as a PR and GRP-type circular route. The circuit is suitable for families and all audiences; it can be completed on foot, on a city bike or on a VTC. It passes through Le Breuil, considered one of the few villages in Chéméré. The restored Moulin de la rue de Pornic is also one of the sights along Circuit des Chênes. The mill has lost its sails.

A shorter option is the 1.2 km circular route around Plan d’eau de la Blanche, which is considered accessible to all. This gives you a choice of two distinctly different circuits: the route around the pond and the longer cycling tour. The paths through the Circuit des Chênes landscape are described as being lined with oak, ash, cherry and pear trees, as well as willows.

Forêt de Princé and La Pierre Levée

Forêt de Princé near Chéméré covers 585 hectares and consists of deciduous and coniferous trees. It is a protected area and is recognised as a ZNIEFF, a natural area of ecological, faunal and floral interest. The forest is entirely privately owned. Access is permitted only with an approved authorisation and reservation; the number of authorisations is limited. Check the latest access requirements before visiting.

The Neolithic menhir La Pierre Levée stands in Forêt de Princé near Chéméré, in the municipality of Chaumes-en-Retz. It is estimated to be 4,500 years old. The stone lies close to a road that runs through the private forest. For this reason, do not plan a visit without the required authorisation and reservation; you should also take into account that the number of authorisations is limited.

Château, mill and church

Château du Bois-Rouaud in Chéméré was rebuilt in 1905 by the architect A. Coulomb. It has been partially listed as a historic monument since 27 November 2001. The listing covers the château’s façades and roofs, the panelling in the main salon attributed to the father of David d’Angers, and the park with its gateways, a bridge and a pond. The church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste in Chéméré dates from 1879.

When looking for a holiday rental in Chéméré, it helps to decide what you would like to focus on: activities in the leisure park, a shorter walk by the water, the longer cycling tour or local history. Plan a visit to Forêt de Princé separately because of the required authorisation and reservation and the limited access.
