Pornic offers several distinct aspects to consider when planning a stay: the Vieux Port in a sheltered ria, the coast with its named path, and historic sites and faience craftsmanship. Depending on your interests, you can focus more on the beach and coast, maritime heritage, monuments or a tour of faience production.

Harbour, Ria and Paths

Pornic’s Vieux Port is located in a sheltered ria. Traditional boats are still moored in the harbour, maintained by the Coques en Bois association. The harbour’s location and maritime heritage are therefore distinct themes. Those interested in the coastline will find another point of reference in the Sentier des douaniers, which runs along the Pornic coast.

Another named route option is the circular trail “Pornic, cité maritime et paysage de ria”. It connects Quai L’Herminier with Quai Leray and passes through the Jardin de la ria. This gives you different route themes to choose from when finding your way around Pornic: a path along the coast and a circular trail with two named quays and the garden as a stop. You can consider them separately when planning, without combining them into a single route.

Coast and Beach

Plage de la Noëveillard is one of Pornic’s largest beaches. You can also play beach volleyball there. When planning a beach visit, both the beach’s size compared with others in the area and a specific sporting activity are relevant. This complements the coastal path with a different perspective: here, the focus is on a particular beach; there, on the course of the Sentier des douaniers along the coast.

Fortress and Megalithic Site

Château de Pornic is a medieval fortress crowned by a seaside resort château; it is listed in the supplementary register of historic monuments. The Tumulus des Mousseaux is one of Pornic’s megalithic sites and is classified as a historic monument. The two places represent different historical themes: a medieval fortress at the château and a megalithic site at the tumulus. If you would like to include culture in your stay, you can explore these separately.

Faience, Market and Thalasso

During a tour of the Faïencerie de Pornic, a staff member explains the faience-making process in around 45 minutes, from the biscuit stage to the finished, decorated product. The hand-painting process and the making of the famous personalised “bol-prénom” bowl are also explained during a visit. The approximate duration gives you an idea of how to fit this individual activity into your schedule; the tour also focuses on craftsmanship and production.

The Marché de Pornic offers fresh, local produce; local crafts and regional products are also presented there. The market therefore brings together food-related offerings and a connection to regional craftsmanship. This is another facet of Pornic, distinct from its beaches and harbour, and something to consider when choosing what interests you.

La Thalasso de Pornic offers thalasso treatments with or without accommodation. This distinction is useful when planning a stay: a treatment does not have to be tied to accommodation, as it is also available without it. If you would like to include thalasso alongside the coast, culture or craftsmanship when choosing your stay, you can consider it as a separate option.
