In Bouvron, you can combine your stay with walks and concrete insights into local history and culture. Four yellow-marked walking trails are registered with the P.D.I.P.R. and linked together, making it possible to cross the commune on foot. The routes offer different highlights, from a walk around the town centre to rural paths and a circuit with a stated length.
Walking Trails with Different Highlights
The Circuit autour du Bourg runs partly along greenways and partly along municipal roads and streets around the town centre of Bouvron. It invites individuals, groups and families to enjoy a walk. Those interested in the route will find a combination of different types of paths on a circuit centred on the town.
The Circuit de Saint-Eloi follows a former railway line and a shady green path. Its character is defined by mostly flat rural paths, villages and green meadows. The distance of the Circuit du Champ de Mont is clearly specified: the PR circuit is 14.3 kilometres long. It leads to the site of Bouvron’s oldest windmill and offers a panorama; Ouessant sheep graze on the green slopes.
The Circuit de Gavalais also starts from Bouvron, following rural paths and offering panoramic views. At Le ChĂŞnet, there is an orientation table with a panoramic view. The routes can therefore be distinguished by their documented features: the town centre and path types on the Circuit autour du Bourg, the former railway line and rural paths at Saint-Eloi, and the specified distance of the Circuit du Champ de Mont.
Local History and Heritage
The Site de la Reddition commemorates the official and final surrender of the German troops on 11 May 1945. It took place in the Grand Clos meadow west of the town centre. The present-day monument at the site was inaugurated on 9 October 1949, replacing a wooden Cross of Lorraine erected in 1947. The dates show the sequence from the cross to the present-day monument.
The Eglise Saint Sauveur preserves several fittings from former religious buildings that were destroyed: a painted wooden altar from the former Saint-Mathurin chapel and baptismal fonts from the former medieval church. Sculptures by contemporary artist Jean Fréour adorn the interior and the porch. A visit to the church adds another facet of local heritage to a visit to the historic memorial site.
Culture and Further Discoveries
HORIZINC is a cultural venue with 245 seats arranged in rising rows. Since 2009, it has hosted annual performances as part of the municipal and community cultural programme, as well as artist residencies. Its cultural offerings therefore include both performances and artists’ working stays.
With Baludik, Bouvron offers a year-round treasure hunt adventure in the heart of the Poche de Saint-Nazaire. Another historical connection is one of the former communal bread ovens, restored by the La Fouretaisienne association. Both offer a different perspective from the walking trails and the commemoration at the Site de la Reddition.
A local product can also be described specifically: La Microbrasserie du Canal produces craft beers with wild hops from the canal. The varieties are white, dark, blonde or red; they are sold in 33-cl bottles under the L’Eclusière brand. The range of discoveries therefore extends from paths and landscapes to heritage and a described regional product.
When planning your trip, you can start by choosing the focus you prefer: a walk around the town centre, rural paths and a 14.3-kilometre circuit offer different route features. Those more interested in history and culture will find points of interest at the Site de la Reddition, the Eglise Saint Sauveur and HORIZINC. These specific themes give Bouvron a clear profile to help you choose a destination and accommodation.
