Heritage, crafts and fishing in Vigneux-De-Bretagne

Vigneux-De-Bretagne offers travellers several distinct areas to explore: the architecture of Saint-Martin Church, rural heritage in La Pâquelais, flour and galette making at Le Moulin Neuf, and fishing opportunities at Étang du Choizeau. This mix helps you choose the focus of your stay according to your interests—architectural history and crafts, regional food culture, or a spot by the water.

Saint-Martin Church and architectural history

The present-day Saint-Martin Church is the work of architect Henri Faucheur; construction of the current building began in 1860. Faucheur is therefore associated with the church as its architect, while 1860 marks the start of its construction. The connection to a named architect and a dated start to construction gives Saint-Martin a specific place in the architectural history of Vigneux-De-Bretagne.

La Pâquelais: rural heritage and traditional crafts

The La Pâquelais site showcases rural heritage through a restored farm and a village of traditional crafts, entirely reconstructed by volunteers. An exhibition is devoted to crafts of the past; a Vignolais house shows how people lived in the previous century. The collection includes numerous objects, tools and agricultural machines from the era of animal traction, when draft animals were used in farming.

Each element offers a different perspective: the village focuses on traditional crafts, the house illustrates an earlier way of life for the Vignolais, and the collection draws attention to agricultural tools and machinery. At La Pâquelais, you can therefore explore both the reconstructed surroundings and objects used in everyday life and work.

Le Moulin Neuf: from flour to galettes

Le Moulin Neuf brings together the history of milling and food production. The site includes a mill and an artisan grain mill; visitors can follow the flour-making process there. The mill was built in 1702 and fully restored in 2005. During a visit, you can also follow the journey from buckwheat grain to the making of galettes.

Two different perspectives come together here: the dates 1702 and 2005 put the building’s history into context, while the journey from buckwheat to galette explains how a food product is made. A crêperie tasting is also available at La Minoterie by prior reservation. It is best to check availability before you arrive and make your reservation accordingly.

Étang du Choizeau: fishing and time by the water

The renovated Étang du Choizeau offers opportunities to fish for roach, bream, perch, gudgeon, carp, catfish and pike-perch. The pond has a jetty, a terrace, fishing platforms and picnic areas. The site is accessible to people with reduced mobility.

If you plan to visit Étang for fishing, check the current fishing rules beforehand, as regulations may change.
