Avessac offers a variety of travel experiences: trails through the marshes, a long-distance hiking trail, a natural viewpoint and regional produce. Hiking and cycling sit alongside paddling trips along the former course of the Vilaine at Painfaut. When planning your trip, it is worth considering the route options and local highlights separately. The weekly market, a heritage orchard and the holiday accommodation at La Halte de Painfaut also offer different insights into what the area has to offer.

Hiking through marshes and heritage sites

The Circuit Faune et Flore runs through the marshes of Avessac and has no major difficulties. The GR de Pays des Trois Rivières is a different proposition: this long-distance hiking trail also passes through Avessac, is 137 kilometres long overall and includes 1,300 metres of elevation gain. These total figures apply to the long-distance trail as a whole, not just its section in Avessac. The Circuit des Sallentin has a cultural focus: it passes a ruined chapel and also offers the chance to discover a château. Alongside the route itself, the chapel and château provide an architectural focus. To help choose where to start, consider whether the marshes, the full scale of the long-distance hike or the buildings along the way matter most to you.

Cycling with two family-friendly options

The Avessac–Massérac cycling loop no. 19 covers 30 kilometres in total and includes two family-friendly options: a 16-kilometre loop around Avessac and a 14-kilometre loop around Massérac. This gives you two shorter options in addition to the full loop. When choosing, you can take both the distance and the location into account: one route goes around Avessac, the other around Massérac.

Paddling and river views

In Painfaut, canoe and kayak rentals make it possible to paddle along the former course of the Vilaine. For a different perspective, the natural Rocher du Vau viewpoint in Avessac overlooks the confluence of the Don and Vilaine rivers. The two experiences offer distinct connections to the water and landscape: the paddling trip follows a former river course, while Rocher du Vau looks out over the confluence of two rivers.

Weekly market, orchard and holiday accommodation

The weekly market in Avessac brings together producers and craftspeople, offering products from the region. The commune is also home to an 11,000-square-metre heritage orchard with nearly 400 fruit varieties, including apples, pears, plums, peaches, cherries, figs, quinces, medlars and hazelnuts. The market highlights regional produce, while the orchard showcases the diversity of fruit varieties.

La Halte de Painfaut is a tourist reception point with holiday accommodation and a nautical activity; it also offers summer entertainment. The entertainment is therefore seasonal. The accommodation available here is holiday accommodation.
