A cycling route runs through Saint-Julien-De-Concelles; other local themes range from vegetable growing along the Circuit de la Loire to plants in the surroundings of a former marshland. There is also kayaking at Plan d’eau du Chêne and the history of Chapelle Saint-Barthélémy. These offer different points of focus when planning your trip. First consider whether you would like to focus on cycling, plants and wetlands, seasonal water sports, or heritage.
Cycling route, Levée and vegetable growing
The 10.3 km cycling route runs along the Levée de la Divatte, connecting La Pierre Percée in Divatte sur Loire with Bellevue in Basse-Goulaine, and passing through Saint-Julien-De-Concelles. The Levée itself stretches for 14 km between Divatte sur Loire and Basse-Goulaine. Construction began in 1847; it is part of the local heritage of Saint-Julien-De-Concelles. The two distances therefore refer to different things: 10.3 km for the cycling route and 14 km for the Levée. This distinction helps you choose the right figure for your route planning. Before setting off, also check whether temporary works or closures affect the cycling route.
The Circuit de la Loire passes through extensive areas of vegetable cultivation on sandy soil. In addition to the famous mâche nantaise, radishes, leeks, carrots and lilies of the valley are grown there. This offers a different perspective from navigating the route along the Levée: the focus here is on the growing areas and the crops cultivated there.
Cyclists also have access to two facilities with specified amenities. At Route des Ponts, the bicycle service station has bike racks, a bench and a small repair kit. In La Chebuette, the bicycle shelter has a charging point for electric bikes, a small repair kit, lockers and a bicycle pump. As visitor facilities can change, it is a good idea to check the amenities before using them.
Family trail, kayaks and botanical trail
The municipal trail “À la découverte de la Loire avec Zélie la libellule” is a free interactive family trail with 11 stops. It is designed to be enjoyed independently. If you are planning to take it, check the app’s availability before you travel.
Kayaking is offered at the Base de loisirs Plan d’eau du Chêne. Depending on the season, kayaks are available for hire or with an instructor, so the specific type of offering is an important distinction for planning. The base also provides adapted access for people with disabilities.
The Arboretum Plan d’eau du Chêne is a botanical trail about 300 m long. It introduces typical wetland plants in the area around the lake and a former marshland. Its approximate length and botanical focus offer a different point of reference from the cycling route’s 10.3 km: here, a short plant-focused walk contrasts with a longer, designated cycling route.
Chapelle Saint-Barthélémy
Chapelle Saint-Barthélémy offers another clearly defined cultural focus. Its main construction phase dates to the 15th century. Since 21 December 1925, the chapel has been protected as a historic monument by decree. These dates mark two different stages in its history: the main period of its construction and its later protected status.
When choosing Saint-Julien-De-Concelles, you can therefore pursue several different interests without following a set itinerary: cycling and an agricultural landscape, seasonal kayaking, the botanical trail and the chapel.
