Fontenay brings together the Curande valley, a church and several historic buildings. For active days, there are two walking trails: one is described with details on distance, difficulty and duration, while the other leads to points of scenic interest. This allows you to focus on culture or nature as different aspects of your stay.

Landscape along the Curande

Fontenay lies in the Pays de Caux, in a valley watered by the Curande. Meadows and farmland shape the landscape; its habitats also include wetlands and wooded slopes. The stream La Curande rises at Clos Saint-Michel in Fontenay and flows into the Lézarde at Montivilliers. If you are interested in landscapes and waterways, you can explore several aspects of the valley here: the course of the stream, open spaces and wooded slopes.

Two walking trails, different planning considerations

The Circuit des Vallons passes through Fontenay. It is 16.5 kilometres long and rated moderate; the stated duration is 3 hours and 45 minutes. Distance, rating and time required give you different points of reference for planning your day. The Circuit Rébultot-Lézarde also passes through Fontenay. Along this circular route, you can discover points of interest including the wetland at the mill site and the Plaine du Tôt. The distinction is useful when choosing between them: the Circuit des Vallons comes with route details, while the Circuit Rébultot-Lézarde focuses on scenic points.

Church and historic architecture

The Church of Saint-Michel is dedicated to Saint Michael; its bell tower dates from the 11th century. Its carved modillions depict plants, grimacing faces, animals and figures. These specific motifs complement the information about the tower’s age. The Manoir du Tôt is one of Fontenay’s manor houses built in the 16th century. The Château du Tôt is partly made of black flint, white stone and brick. The Manoir de la Clinarderie has a dovecote. Together, these buildings offer different perspectives on their age, stone materials and architectural details. Modillions are projecting stones, usually decorated, beneath a cornice.

The Pierres en lumières festival has been co-organised in Seine-Maritime since 2016. On 30 May 2026, the festival programme included a torchlight tour of the Church of Saint-Michel in Fontenay.
